TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Looking at new trucks", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have 2 brothers who own Honda Ridgelines, and they both love 'em. One is the top of the line model loaded with every bell and whistle, the other is the entry level RT model. If I knew about Carsdirect.com when I purchased my Tacoma I probably would have bought one. They are selling nicely equipped RTX models in my region for around $23,500, and the resale on them is awesome. The bulletproof 3.5L V6 is one jewel of an engine, and smooooooth. The excellent ride (4 wheel independent suspension) blows the Tacoma away, so take that into consideration if you commute a long distance. The only complaint they both have is the lower than expected fuel mileage. They both get around 14 mpg around town. The All Wheel Drive Ridgeline is a rather heavy vehicle because of the hybrid frame and AWD driveline. Unlike the Tacoma, the Ridgeline bed will fit 4' x 8' sheets of drywall/plywood between the wheel wells. This is a big plus if you use your vehicle for home improvement projects.
I ended up buying the Tacoma because of the lower purchase price, better exterior styling, and decent fuel mileage. Many buyers are turned off by the fugly Ridgeline styling, especially the front end. The bottom line? I think it comes down to exterior styling and where you can get the best deal. You really can't go wrong with either one.

If you're going to be hauling much, the tie down rail system on the Frontier is way better and stronger. Also you can put a TracRac on a Frontier but not on the Tacoma.
I agree with that... not like Toyota at all either. I hope that they get back to their old ways soon. I love my truck though and I can't complain about it riding nicer than a typical truck, but thats just me.
I definitely appreciate the car like ride. The seats are fantastic. Don't get me wrong. But, banging down on the bump stops with four people in the cab over small dips in the road is another story though.
When this has happened, I just love this question: "Hey man, your shocks are bad already?" I say "No no, they're new. I asked Toyota about it and they said it's perfectly Normal"

Uh huh...
Supersprings... the best investment for a Tacoma. It rides a little stiffer but handles much better as well and sits level with 1,000 lbs in the bed.
