TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "1GR motor - crank", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
alright, folks. Let's grab a hold of all those connections with the junk yards and service guys that might know where a bad crank is so I can get my hands on one.
I just want to get one to see if it can work for my app. If it can, then I will look for one that is good, but to see if it works, I just want a busted up one that anyone would just throw away.
I doubt it would... it would probably fit, I have seen 90-95 4runner's with 350's in them and that may be the way to go. But it would be one hell of a project trying to figure our how to make a 4.0 work. There is so much more technology in the 4.0 then there is in the 3.0. I am sure you could make it work, but it would take a lot of time and money, more than would make it worth it. An easier project if you wanted to keep it Toyota would probably be the 3.4 and that puts out much more power than your 3.0. I think the 3.4 is 190 hp and 221 torque and the 3.0 150 hp 150 tq, but that would still be a project. I would personally do a 350 or a 327, I have a 350 in my FJ40 and it is great for street driving, mudding, the dunes but I miss my 2f's very low end torque for on the rocks.

Well, I wasn't going for a full motorkit swap with the 4.0. I agree the 3.4 is the way to go with a full swap, because you can swap out a complete motor and drop in the 3.4 ECU using all the 3.0 wiring. I am considering that, but have a different project in mind.
