Default Add an amp and or change the HU ?

I like the stero setup but it's got no power and the bass sucks.

I've got the 6 CD changer setup (non-JBL)

Will adding an amp fix me up or do I need to change the Head unit too?

i think adding an amp( although unsure of size) will help, especially with bass and making it a lil louder, basically getting full potential of the speakers. just as long as you're careful not to over do it, and have the speakers blow out.

Dont waste your money hooking up a line-level amp to the stock deck. Your affordable options in order of how it will affect the sound quality (IMO) are...

1. New deck w/ at least 15 w rms and new speakers (at least replace the 6x9s in front).

2. New speakers all around, keep the stock deck.

3. Line level amp, new speakers. This is the worst option.

I belive that alpine has a new piece of gear that will hook up to your existing head unit and will have a new dac and will have line out options for extra amps. It is supposed to have different sound correction options and eq and not a bad price I am thinking about one myself.

First post! Anyway, I've always liked keeping my system pretty stealth as to not attract attention from would be thieves. I usually am able to keep the stock deck (especially since mine is the 6 disc MP3 changer), add a line converter for a single amp and subwoofer, and change out the factory speakers. Usually in my case, the system is much improved. The stock decks push enough power to the speakers for highs and mids. Then I have the sub for lows.

Quick question (not to hijack) - does the factory JBL 6 disc MP3 deck push more wattage than the regular 6 disc MP3 deck?

I'll have to see on the Tacoma as I pick it up this evening. 07 DC LB in silver streak.

My stock HU has issues too. On radio, the power is more then enough, but when listening to CD's, the power is 1/3 of the radio level. I've actually had it maxed out at +60 many times. Mine is the 6cd deck, CDN version, 07 my. My 05 Taco didn't have this issue, so not sure what's the deal. There must be internal gain settings for the radio and cd that aren't set correctly.

New vehicles are great...but you spend 2 months uncovering little issues that drive you nuts! add this one too the list.....
