Default One good thing about the 'small' beds on the Tacoma

Not the length, the width. The Tacoma bed could have been almost a half foot wider (believe it was not to tread on the Tundra's capacity in 05'). Those nifty bed comparments are all that fill the wasted space between the plastic bed and the sheet metal of the body.

SO I pulled down a large dead tree on my property in 4LO without a prob, then saw it up and filled the bed. The last part was to throw in the heavy base trunk. Well she bounced up on the branches and an arm of the trunk slammed into the side of the bed. F-in major dent. Dent looked like a foot long taco (no pun intended) with the 'TRD' sticker as the meat an cheese filling.

Now the good part, after unloading, was able to reach up in the 'wasted bed space void' and pound the dent 98% out by hand. All thats left besides the scraches is hard to see crease where it folded. Most beds dont dent this easy, but at least we have easy access to pound the dents out.

Well, your right, that's the first "good thing" I have heard about the bed.

When i bought my truck I didn't pay much attention to the bed, but now I am wondering how it will hold up in the long term, say 10 yrs or so. I know one thing for sure, you can't use it like a steel bed, I am always real careful about throwing anything in the bed. If it cracks or breaks it will be expensive to replace for sure.

That suck's about your truck... at least it was easy to fix. The bed deffinetly does waste a lot of space, but I don't know why everyone hates the material it is made out of. I am not gentle on mine and it does have some scratches... but no dents or cracks. Just the other week we were doing some clean up in the yard and getting rid of a bunch of old cement steps. We were throwing them into the bed and had no problems. I would of course prefer a steel bed with a spray in liner, but I would take the Tacoma's bed over a steel bed with no liner or a plastic liner.
