Mine are yellow, with blue boots... kinda silly-looking imo, but they'll do until they need changing.

I was not able to see the truck in person yet, but the owner said the truck has the locking rear switch on left side of dash next to the fog light switch. Until I see the truck is it possible that this is a SR 5 package with the owner adding the locking rear, off road shocks, TRD decals from Toyota when built? Everthing you guys have told me about the TRD Off Road package is spot on but does not match this vehicle. I can only hope that Toyota did build the truck this way for the owner or he added the options on his own.

The truck is in Maryland and I'm in Jersey so is it also possible Toyota offers different options depending on your location?

I will post photos of the truck if I buy it.

Thanks again to you all. Going crazy over here!!!!

Hey look what I found click Edmunds.com New True Market Value Glossary

Take a look at option "LD" along with "SL" that explains the truck in question having the locking rear. So looks like the truck is a SR 5 package #2 with the available option locking rear.........that's the reason it's missing the overhead compass/temp. and deck mounted socket.

As far as having the off road shocks, skid plate, and graphics the owner must have added at the dealer so he could have a TRD Off Road equipped truck with a long bed!

What do think? I will fill you in after I see in person.

Still going crazy, but a little less after finding the new info. Good detective work pays off.

You sure are persistent! And I think you are getting closer to solving the mystery, but now I wonder -- what does Toyota's website have to say about those options mentioned on the edmunds site? Just curious about their accuracy, in part because of option LD, which states limited slip and locking differential -- and I'm sure that's incorrect.

PM me the VIN so I'll remember and I'll look tomorrow and get the vehicle inquiry on it which will tell you exactly what options it had when it came from the factory.

You can have both a limited slip and locking rear on a vehicle.......

Never heard of that on a Tacoma... dunno about any others, usually it's either/or. Unless you'e talking about a locking rear, and lsd front -- but Toyota never offered a lsd front that I'm aware of.

I'm going by my '05 brochure and online research in '05, and what I have gleaned in the message boards. You are looking at an '06, and referring to edmunds info for an '07. So maybe I'm missing something.

I checked Toyota's website for '07 Tacomas, and find no mention of option LD. The option packages appear to be pretty much the same as they were beginning in '05.

Can you supply dareads with the VIN?

yes I sent him the VIN #. All I know for sure is it has a locking rear, but as you said it's an SR 5 package not a true TRD Off Road. Looking forward to seeing what the build sheet says.
Can't thank all of you for helping me figure this out.
Thanks, BIGG

There is indeed a LD option on the Tacoma's. But it is for Limited Slip differential, not locking.

Ok folks dareads sent me the build sheet ( THANK YOU!!! ) and here's how the truck came from the factory: add on options are CD player with 6 disc changer & steering wheel audio controls, 16" alloy wheels, LIMITED SLIP differential, SR 5 PKG.#2, Towing package, carpet floor mats.

We have an SR 5 not a TRD Off Road from the factory.

Other items on the truck that the owner or dealer put on are: Bilstein shocks, tow hook, skid plate, TRD graphics, and a sport model hood scoop.

Still the only mystery left is the "RR" switch on the dash next to the fog light switch. I don't think this is for the limited slip.....

Wow what a trip this was! Thanks to all who replied.

Thanks, BIGG

No, LSDs are completely automatic in their operation. Maybe the PO swapped out the LSD for an electric locker?

Anyway, thanks for the update. Are you still planning on buying it?
