Default Trd Off Road Packages?

Hello, does anyone know what different option packages were available in the TRD Off Road series Tacoma's in 2006? I'm picking up a used 06 Tacoma SR5 TRD off Road crew cab with the long bed and finding some items missing on the truck that I think come with the TRD Off Road model. Missing items are deck mounted electric socket, overhead compass/tempature gauge. I just want to make sure that this truck is in deed an TRD Off Road model with a locking rear and heavy shocks. I do have the VIN # if there is a way to find the build papers of the truck.
Thanks for any help!

I have an '05 TRD Off Road DC. I *think* the '06 models were the same, and a couple things you mention cause me to wonder exactly what you are looking at.

For starters, Double Cab (DC) SR5 and TRD Sport came with either long or short bed, but TRD Off Road came only with short bed. All TRD Off Roads and Sports had the rear power outlet and the overhead display.

Also, Off Road trucks have the RR Diff Lock button on the left side of the dash, between the fog lamp switch and the rear power outlet switch.

Another thing to look for is yellow Bilstein shocks, which come with Off Road and Sport packages -- though with different valving.

I suspect you are looking at an SR5 truck. If it has the TRD Off Road stickers on the rear fenders, they have likely been added by a previous owner.

Oh btw, welcome to the boards!

edit: a few other differences... Sport comes with hood scoop and 17" wheels, while SR5 and OR come with 16" wheels. OR trucks have a single front tow hook, and skid plates for engine & fuel tank. OR and SR5 have chrome grille surround, with black mirrors & door handles; those parts are painted body color on Sport.

Splicer hit it dead on. I think you have an SR5 with TRD Off-Road stickers as well. The most important part of the TRD package (To me) is the electric locking rear diff. Look for the switch like Splicer stated.

I agree. Both Off-Road and Sports packages come with the digi-compass display. Also, you can check out all the packages on Toyota Packages and check out what comes standard in each package and whats an option. Another thing you can loko at to see if its an off road package is the tires, if the havn't been changed by the previouse owner that is. TRD off road package comes with P265/70R16 BFGoodrich® Rugged Trail T/A tires.

Thank you so much! I had a feeling this was not a Off Road series. I'm working on the owner to get me the build sheet on the truck to prove it's a TRD Off Road...........but I do not think it is.
Thanks again for all the help.

OK here's what I found out........the truck has the locking rear switch ( RR ) on the dash, has front skid plate, Bilstein off road shocks, TRD OFF ROAD decals, 16" wheels, and front tow hook. SR5 package and LONG BED.
NO POWER OUTLET NO OVERHEAD TEMP/COMPASS.

The truck was made in september 05 and came from Maryland. Possible they offered the TRD OFF ROAD on long beds for early 2006?

I searched on e-bay and Auto Trader and found a few (very few) with long bed and TRD OFF ROAD packages so I feel better about it.

What do you think? I'm going crazy here.............

Thanks, BIGG

I'm still baffled. Did you see the window sticker (and did the VIN match, so you know it's the correct one)? My '05 brochure, and all my research prior to purchase, and everything I've read on the message boards all say the same thing -- no long beds on Double Cab Off Road Tacomas.

If you can't get a definite answer here and want to do some more digging, try over at Toyota Nation 2005+ Tacoma - Toyota Forums :: Toyota Nation. Maybe someone there can run the VIN for you.

This sounds kind of fishy. I wouldn't buy from this guy. Also, does it have the sport seats?

A dealer should be able to take the VIN and figure out what exact options were included on that truck.

This is why you should always keep the window sticker, just in case you need to prove what options were installed.

If I am not mistaken, it wouldn't have the sport seats in 2005, the upgraded interior was only part of the TRD Sport package in 2005, which was changed in 2006 when both the TRD Off Road and TRD Sport packages ad the sport seats. The easiest way to tell is the locking rear diff. Does it have a factory button installed for the locking rear differential? Does it have a gray sticker on the driver side door which cautions about when to use the locking diff? When you engage the diff, does a light come on in the dash? If this is all true, than it is indeed a factory locking diff which only came on the TRD Off Road. If you also want to double check, see if it has yellow and blue "Bilstein" shocks which have the toyota name on them. I highly doubt someone went through all the trouble of installing a factory look alike locking diff and toyota bilstein shocks as well as the TRD decals. If all this is true, then I would say you have yourself a true TRD Off Road. Hope this helps,

Nathan

Nathan, I agree with your entire post (good point about the dash light for the locker), except this on the seats. In '05, the sport seats were part of both TRD Sport and TRD Off Road packages. Only the SR5 got the standard seats.

Default Re: Trd Off Road Packages?

Thanks for correcting me Splicer. I could have swore that back in 2005 when I was looking at Tacoma's the upgraded interior was only on the sport package, however that was a few years ago and I guess I was mistaken. If that is so, then it is even easier to tell if it is a true TRD, just look at the seats, leather wrapped stearing wheel and shifter. Theres your ticket.

I can't thank you guys enough for all the information. I'm going to see the truck this Tuesday and look for myself. I do know for sure that it has the factory locking rear and yellow shocks ( owner sent me photos ), just hope the seats are correct...........

Thanks again, you guys are the best!
