Default Desperate times call for desperate measures

Well as the title states, desperate times call for desperate measures, in this case those gasoline prices. Went on a sightseeing tour of Monterey, CA leaving from the Bay Area and back. I would say 75% freeway and 25% highway trying to conserve as much gas as possible and seeing if EPA estimates make any sense at all. After grannying it quite a bit (short shifting, 55-60 MPH, monitoring the ScanGauge II), and drafting some big rigs and other bigger vehicles, I was able to get a respectable 20.05 MPG according to calculation on the full tank. So if your not in a big rush to get anywhere you too can save some money on gas as well.

Just some specifications: I'm driving a 2007 4x4 V6 6 Speed DC, with Mobil 1 in the engine, Redline in the diff and trans, running on regular 87, and a K&N Intake, ScanGauge II helps a lot too, my girlfriend was the only passenger on this trip. I posted my last receipt just for you to take a look.

Same truck as you. The 6spd loves 55-65 mph, over that mileage drops. My best tank at those speeds has been 21.4 mpg. I also run full syn throughout. I'll bet higher octane will also up your mpg too.

I see you got a Scangauge, where is the best rpm as far as balancing mpg and power?

Some guys have said they shift at 2K and sit at 1500 cruising along. I tried that for a tank (felt too low) and I lost 2mpg (I usually shift at 2500, and cruise around 2K).

How accurate are those Scangauges?
