TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "high rev with Ac", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Is this high rev between 1 and 2 gears in an automtic with the AC on normal? Its not excessive...I understood a little more with a 3.7 liter on my 97...or am I just paranoid.
THis is a known issue with "new" toyota vehicles. Anytime my compressor kicks on, my rpm's go up and if I do not have a firm foot on the brake then the truck will inch forward. My parents 01 4runner has the same issue. There is no fix to it that I know of.
My guess is it could be caused by a rpm requirement of the ac compressor, or if it didnt have the rpm increase the engine perhaps stalled or lurched during their development when they got up on the gas from a stop, or... only they know for sure.

Unfortunately, I still have the infamous 'lurching' not caused by the A/C. I was running about 7-8 mph flat (when the vehicle was new)without touching the gas. 4.0L auto. The clutches have loosened up a little since...now runs about 5 mph.
The A/C rpm increase is generated by the A/C compressor which is activated by an AC solenoid. This is a normal condition.
