TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "any bed racks on the new smc tacomas?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
since nobody will tell me the load the sides of the composite bed can safely handle if i where to use racks. i thought i would poll the people. has anybody put racks on thier trucks? if so what kind? & what did you carry? i usually don't have to carry a big load but there is always that one moment! i would like to know if i'm going to be at risk of damaging my truck. also i was told if i put racks on my truck it would viod warranties. any help would be welcome thanks
i was told if i put racks on my truck it would viod warranties.
Thats news to me.....
I am also looking for a rack to haul ladders on. Hopefully someone will have input on a nice strong one.
I look at those tulies but I dont think they would hold up for day to day work.
i called toyota cuttomer assistance (1-800-331-4331) & they told me that
but they didn't give me specifics.i was trying to find out about the load & racks. i plan on calling the warranty department next. give it a try and let me know how it goes
I have only seen 1 with complete headache rack and side bed bars.Where I work every truck has them ,so I called the place that fab's them up and I was told the same thing. They contacted Toyota and were told that any racking on the bed rails would void the warrenty.
I had to fab up a headrack myself out of aluiminum and placed it on a 1/4" checker plate base plates that are bent(broke) down and mounted to the box rails.3-1/2" stainless bolts hold each side to some "Uni-strut" spring nuts in the bed rails(Uni-strut looks the same to what is used in the bed rails, totally different sizeing)
Last week I had 12-10 ft'rs of 1 1/2" Uni-strut, 20-10 ft'rs of 3/8" ready rod(threaded rod stock) and 2-14 ft wooden step ladders on the headache rack with no issues, will be testing it in the month or so with a 10 ft fiberglass car topper(have yet to decide on a rear rack yet)
Your probabley going to have to go down the road to your welder,I'm about 1 hr north of Washington State on the coast. Aluminium square tubeing is grossley priced right now,I had a steel one on my last truck.
the more i look into this the more i don't like it.
the warranty guy confirmed! i was talking to a toyota parts guy and he told me that there were reports of racks falling through the sides of the bed.
has anybody heard of this? i'm getting the feeling this is not a truck for work. i ussually don't carry heavy loads but who wants to make a more trips
