Avic-D3 GPS Antenna Placement

I've heard you can mount these under the dash, on the dash, or outside of the cab. I would like to place it under the dash so that I can't see it. Anybody do this with their Tacoma? How's is the signal reception? Mounting it on the metal frame under the dash seems to be the best idea to me, but I have not yet taken a look under the dash.

I put mine on the roof of my 04 doublecab. signal is great but the black antenna and wire is very noticeable on my silver roof. I think I may move it inside under the dash soon. When I was doing test fitting it picked up signal fine in my garage with the antenna just tossed in the floor. I dont think you would have much problem with signal loss.
