TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "2008 Tacoma Info?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I was trying to find out what Toyota has coming for the new Tacomas. I am considering buying one soon but I can't find information for the 2008 models. Anyone have any scoop? The main item would be the engine options. I really like the new V6 they have in the RAV4 and I was hoping they would use the same one for the new trucks. I have a Honda Accord ready to be traded in
I'm in a similar situation. I had an 03 Double Cab Limited. I traded it for an 05 Accord Coupe SE. I miss the truck and would love to pick up another one. I hope Toyota does a MMC on the Tacoma. Something similar to the 06 4Runner. Rounded out wheel arches, an updated possibly LED rear light and maybe a headlight change. I am hoping for some more power from the 4.0 but really don't expect any. I think we'll both know in a few months. Oh and I would love an aux jack for my Ipod.

Hey Joe,
We're not asking much.
I've had 2 toyota trucks a while back and I miss them. I think I'm getting old. I can settle for the same truck with the new motor. I will be commuting in the sucker so I need a little better gas mileage from current.
Its desgned for front drive configurations (Avalon, camry, rav4). The 4.0 is built for trucks/rear drive configs (4runner,Tacoma, FJ). That 3.5 motor may have higher hp, but loses 20-25 ft/lb of torque vs the 4.0 V6. Like all trucks, torque numbers should be higher than hp. Think towing and hauling and the extra weight of the truck vs compact Suv.
4.0 is a good match and gets the best mpg while still being the fastest in its class.
The Tacoma is the only compact truck having good sales numbers... I doubt any significant changes, maybe a couple cosmetic, headlights or minor interior updates.

I just bought an '07 Sport and I had the same complaint, plus I thought the whole stereo sounded rather anemic. So I went to BestBuy yesterday and bought the $179 Pioneer (IB4900 or something like that) unit that comes with a free cable to both charge and run your Ipod and they ran that cable to the glove compartment. So you just leave your IPOD plugged into the cable in the glove compartment and forget about it until you want to listen to those tunes. The radio is set up so that when you select IPOD as an input, the normal IPOD menu's are shown on the dashboard radio display and you can select the songs right from there. There is also an AUX input so you can set it up with a mobile XM or Sirius receiver. I thought I might need all new speakers too but this stereo puts out a lot more power than the factory one and even with the existing speakers still there, the sound is like night and day. Unbelievable difference! In addition to the stereo itself, you'll need to replace that center dashboard panel and there are two companies who make them, Scosce, and Metra. I looked at them both and liked the Scosce silver one a lot better than the Metra. That costs about another $50. So for well under $300(free install right now at BestBuy), you can have a great sounding stereo WITH your IPOD jack. Cheaper than trading trucks!
No confirmation, but I had a dealer show me a sheet that said the '08 would come out at it's normal model year change time in the fall. The '09 would be out in June of '08 with "minor" changes.
My wish list would be;
- Heated Leather
- Better stereo (with I-pod interface)
- Heated mirror option (for cryin' out loud Toyota, if it's a 4 wheel drive truck it will probably see snow & ice sometime!)
- And I would like to be able to easily put a ladder rack on and take it off.
Wouldn't mind LED tail and turn signal lights and HID headlights either.

All factory sound systems will sound like crap.
You're never goin to see HIDs or xenons in the Tacoma. Why did you think they put it in the '07 4Runners but not the Tacoma? Since its a truck that you would go into harsh conditions with, they equipped it with somethin cheaper and gives better visibility.

Thanks for looking.
There is not a chance in hell that the 3.5 will be in the Tacoma. As for 2008, probably very minor changes to the truck.
