Default Donahoe coilovers maybee not so great???

When I first bought the truck I couldn't believe the awsome ride quality. Then I went to a 3'' spacer lift with some add-a-leafs and 285 BFG MT's and the ride was harsh. So I was sick of the coil spacers and wanted a better overall lifted ride and now I have Total Chaos UCA's with Donahoe's cranked to almost 3''. In the rear I've installed Donahoe reservoir shocks and Dakar leaf packs. It's better, but still far less than stock quality. I mean is there something I'm missing or am I supposed to adjust something else??? Could the whole problem be in the nubby tires? The alignment is 100% so that's not the problem. I'm still feeling every little bump and crack in the road with these coilovers whereas my stock truck seemed to glide right over them. I had the impression that you could go just about anywhere with these coilovers but I've found it hard to drive a rocky road without think'in im gunna break something. Any thoughts? Ill try to get some of the installed pics up...maybee there it an obvious problem someone could point out to me? Thanks...

The DR springs are more stiff than stock. They are intended to be used offroad and the springs and valving are tuned accordingly. If you want a softer ride send them into donahoe and tell them what you want. They can install lighter springs and revalve them for cruising the mall. The drawback will be horrible handling off road, and lots of body roll in the corners. Also having them cranked does not help. Try lowering them down an inch to the height they were when you took them out of the box. For the rear, sell your Dakars and get a set of Deaver 10 packs. The Dakars are intended to carry heavy loads. Put a few hundred pounds of sandbags over your axle and see how much better it rides.

thanks for the advice about weighing down the rear axle I've been planning on it but havent got around to it. i dont want to modify the coilovers as you suggested but lowering them is a posibility. i did drive it a couple hundred miles before raising them and didn't notice any significant difference. maybee they need to break in more or something but as for now they seem really stiff and I'll need to take it easy. thanks

just noticed that the front left side of my truck it about 3/4'' higher than the right. maybee this could have something to do with it. i did not do the installation myself but i did install the coil spacers on my own and the lift was even at that point. i cant seem to find any reason why the coilovers, or the intallation, or maybee even the new UCA's have made it uneven. they are adjusted to the same height. any ideas?

285 BFG MTs are a D rated tire. Factory tires are P tires. D = 2 steps up in sidewall rigidity = 2 steps up in ride stiffness.

still no luck on the side height difference anyone else experience this =? maybee it could be spring sag? but I've only had these about 600 miles so i don't know if that's possible. also thanks for the info about the tires... i had no idea. would it help at all to put them at a lower PSI cause right now i think they are at the top recommended preasure?

The gas tank, battery, and you sit on the drivers side, so it is much heavier. Just jack up your truck and turn the passenger coilover up (counterclockwise viewed from above) a couple of turns. They aren't level from the factory either, but the cool thing about adjustable coilovers is that we can even it up. It still won't be the same in the rear, some guys have gone to the extreme of putting a deaver 11 pack on the drivers side and a ten pack on the passenger side to level it out. Also your suspension will will soften up a bit if you hammer the crap out of it offroad. Less PSI in your tires will help a little, but if you go too much it will hurt gas mileage and wear the tires faster. 26 psi F&R is what I run. The reason the manual says to run higher pressure in the rear is for carrying max load safely, but I run empty 99% of the time so it's not needed.
