Supersprings Installation Notes
This message is intended to provide some tips for anyone about to install Supersprings on a newer Tacoma. Specifically, I have an '05 DC, long bed, no TRD suspension.
There are two key clarifications to the instructions that come with the Supersprings. This has been stated on another post but I just wanted to confirm my experience.
First, the instructions state to install threads out but not to adjust the pivot bolt that attaches the shackle to the Superspring. The problem is that they ship two identical Supersprings so that can't be done on both sides. It is indeed important to install the Supersprings threads out, ESPECIALLY on the driver side given the very close proximity of the gas tank and frame. I had to take out the bolt that they say you should not touch to reverse the direction of the threads to ensure there was enough clearance between shackle bolts and frame/gas tank. I just tightened it to match the shackle on the Superspring that didn't need the bolt reversed.
Second, the instructions state to put the shackle in the bottom hole in the front and top hole in the back, stating that the back would hit the frame. My experience was the opposite with that setup. The front definitely hits the frame but the back easily clears it (as long as the bolt threads are facing out). I simply put the front in the top hole and back in the bottom hole and everything is happy.
It has been stated on this forum many times before, but Supersprings are highly recommended for hauling a load with the newer Tacomas with the super soft suspension. With Supersprings, the ride is the same as stock unloaded and extremely improved loaded. There is no bottoming onto the rubber stops except on extreme dips with huge load.
Again, this was for an '05 Double cab with long bed. I do NOT have the TRD suspension. Other trucks may be different. In other words, your experience could be different but wanted to share mine. I have shared my experience directly with Gerry at Supersprings so it is possible they will make some improvements for future. Good luck. Hope this helps. I have gotten great info from this forum so this is my attempt to give back just a bit.
