Lower the tailgate and remove the two 10mm bolts (one high, one low) that hold the tail lamp in place from the rear inside of the bed. Then stand behind the lamp and pull it towards yourself -- it's held by a rubber cone-shaped plug that fits inside a hole, and it takes a pretty good tug to free it.

While You have the lamp housing out of the body, put a very thin coat of light grease or some WD40 on those studs that fit in the body so it not so hard to get out next time. I have had some cars/trucks that I think the sheetmetal will rip before the lamp assembly lets go.

^ That's a good tip -- thin coat of white lithium grease might be better than WD-40, which would probably be all dried out by the next time you remove it.

tv7, glad to help -- I only knew how b/c I had to remove the tail lamps to install the brackets for the bed extender! And btw... welcome to TS!
