TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "3" lift and cv boots", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
so im wondering... because im new to the lifting process, if i put a 3 inch revtek lift on my stock trd off road 2007 tacoma, it would wear the cv boots or joints out at all.
I called the local lifting place "olympic off road" and they are telling me that there is nothing that would happen and nothing would wear out but i am a little hesitant to believe that.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT?
I know that most Tundra owners will install a differential drop kit. That will take some the strain off of the CV joints.
All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-a$$ed set of tires on his truck.

the revtek kit for your truck will come with diff mount drop spacers and you will be just fine! i just did that kit on my 07 access cab trd sport!
How is the connection rod between your sway bar & front end? That little section that has two ball and socket joints on it. Mine popped out yesterday then torn the $%^& out of the CV boot.
I had a 3" lift installed on my 2006 TRD Off Road up until about a month ago, and it did major damage on my CV's. The angle of the CV axles was pretty bad, and I did a lot of off roading, and I put it through it's full range of articulation. Well one day i was washing it and noticed both CV boots were split completely in half. I wasn't sure how long they had been like that, and surely water, dirt, sand, and who knows what else was getting in there. When I was getting my 6" lift installed we noticed that one of the 3 bearing on the passenger side CV axle was broken, and the driver side CV axle was damaged as well. I had to replace both CV axles. The 6" lift has drop down brackets and a whole new metal frame that bolts onto the front crossmember. With the 6" lift, the CV axles are at a normal angle again. My 3" lift didn't come with any diff mount drop spacers on my front differential. I hope this helped.

Sorry I didn't answer the original question. Still slighly ticked off over having to replace this: (IMG link works on some sight but haven't tried it onthis one)
3" Revtk, yep got it, going to replace it with the Old Man Emu soon. Front arms are pushed just about as far down as they will travel. This by itself won't hurt the CV but the boot is subjected to more stress (flexing in and out more) and should be checked regularly. Check the photo if it loaded, steering wheel is turned all the way not leaving much extra room for the boot to stretch. When the rubber starts to get old, the flexing will eventually be too much for it. Another down side (why I'm chunking the Revtek) is since the arms are down about as far as they will go, What do you think will happen when you go over a bump at 70 MPH? Well lets just say it'll be a "Hold my beer!" moment.
