TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "spark plugs 2006 v6 tacoma", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Just wondering what spark plugs anyone has tried. I like ngk iridium, but all they have for this engine is the regular V-Power...
Any suggestions, comments welcome..
Take a look at this thread, as you probably already know, Toyota uses split plugs: NGK's on one side and Denso's on the other. What you will see on the pic's is the Denso's run hotter and leaner than the NGK's. Both are copper, but the electrode on the NGK's is a little smaller and more rounded off. My guess is the inherit design of the Denso's electrode leads to a hotter-leaner more-efficient plug. Also, some have mentioned switching to the Denso's iridium have produced a smoother more responsive engine. In addition, from what I understand, the plugs on one side are a real pain to change; therefore, I believe when I change out my stock copper's at 30K, I'll be switching over to the 100K Denso iridium plugs.
im in the process of changing my plugs. i have just changed the ones on the harder side that are the ngk's with the same ones, now on the other side i find that they are denso's. when i bought plugs i bought 6 of the ngk stock ones. should i get the denso's or will the ngk's be ok?

the ngk's are fine. toyota just does this(two types of plugs), because they have have two techs installing the plugs on different sides of the assembly line. basically......................to screw with everyone when it comes time to change plugs.
i think i will go with denso iridiums when i change mine out at 30k.......long life plug.
Id go with Denso Iridiums because they will last you 100,000 miles. Other than the fact that they are inexpensive, I cant see why Toyota is putting copper plugs in these engines.

FYI, the 1GR supercharger kit includes iridium plugs (one step colder than stock to control detonation).
The main advantage in using an iridium plug is longetivity along with a finer point for a more concentrated spark.
Buy the OEM 2GR-FE (2007+ Camry V6, 2005+ Avalon, etc), install them, and forget about them for 120,000 miles. They are long reach plugs just like the 1GR-FEs.
