Isn't that interesting. This sounds exactly like my problem and I've got the damn skid plate on my Access Cab. I must say, it's a pos. Won't be long and that thing is going to be coming off.
First Whats up? Yes the skid plate vibrates once it cracks. I was on a recent road trip and I started to hear this vibration. Like you I thought it was my wheels at first. once I ruled that out by checking pressure and tightness of lug nuts i thought forget it. then I was following a semi and pulled out beside him and it started again. so then I knew it was a issuse with something vibrating in the wind. I stopped and looked and it was my skid plate. It had cracked right in the corner of the hole for my tow hook. I was just driving down the road and this happened, didnt hit anything at all. took it to the dealership and they said they would get me another one this was before I heard about this do now i will call them tomorrow and find out a lead time on the new ones.
I have a 05 Tacoma with the aluminum skid plate. It had a bad vibration at 75+ MPH or if the wind was blowing against me it was at lower speeds. I took the plate off and the vibration went away. I did notice where the top front of the plate there is a scratch in the front bumper. This was probably caused by the vibrating plate. I took it to the dealer and they did not mention a recall on the skid plate, they just rebalanced the tires and said that was the problem.
Well it still vibrates so I am taking it off until they fix the problem.
Can anyone rattle off all the known issues so far with the new Tacoma?
Has there been any factory recalls yet? ... or just Service Bulletin stuff?
Recalls are identified in the Technical Service Bulletin Database in group Special Service Campaign or Limited Service Campaign. For the '05 Tacoma there have not been any issued.
Toyota recalls 22,000 Tacomas to fix parking brakes
DETROIT (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 22,228 of its 2005-model Tacoma pickup trucks to fix a potential problem with their parking brakes, federal safety regulators said Tuesday.
Just FYI incase anyone has been having problem with theirs
Make / Models : Model/Build Years:
TOYOTA / TACOMA 2005
Manufacturer : TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 05V050000 Recall Date : FEB 10, 2005
Component: PARKING BRAKE
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 22228
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL CABLE LOCK NUT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO THE PROPER TORQUE SPECIFICATION. IN THIS CONDITION, THE LOCK NUT MAY LOOSEN AND COME OFF, WHICH WILL REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PARKING BRAKE.
Consequence:
THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL IF THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT PLACED INTO THE "PARK" POSITION AND THE VEHICLE IS PARKED ON A SLOPE, THUS RAISING THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND TIGHTEN THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL CABLE LOCK NUT TO THE PROPER TORQUE SPECIFICATION. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN EARLY MARCH 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.
Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236.
Thanks, I thought it was a typo at first with the pedal thing, thanks for clearing it up for me
btw, just because it's tight it can still mean it isn't torqued correctly, unless you have the FSM (don't even know if it'll show) then might as well take it in for a check up... It won't take more than a second for them to come out with a torque wrench and check it...
So that is where that nut that fell onto my foot while driving goes. Saturday night I felt something hit my shoe. I looked down and there is a black nut resting on my shoe. I think I'll go and check to see if the brake is holding or not.
