We don't have them online here yet. The only place online is alldata.com, but that requires a $24.95 fee. Currently they have them for the 2001 and earlier models.
Just heard from a few dealership parts managers that Toyota has recalled/stopped production on the current skidplate, and is retooling it. I wonder how much of this info is accurate, and I wonder what the problem with the first batch is/was......
You mean that aluminum-looking one? Isn't that the accessory part? That thing looked cool....if so, I am bummed ...I am making out my dream truck specs now.
I want that roof rack too, but am having a hard time getting one.
Any more knowledge as to why it is recalled? Is it a safety issue or a fit and finish issue?
Curious as to how a skidplate made to take a few hits is recalled... It isn't even a moving part
I guess it dosen't take as many hits as a skidplate'll require?
Maybe they need more holes in it because when I came back from Ocotillo last weekend, there was a whole glob of mud stuck under the engine skid plate. I had to macgyver my pressure washer to get all that !@#$ out.
I just drove past a dealer today and they had a black double cab with the front skid plate on outside. If it was recalled then how come they haven't taken it off?
I just took my 05 in yesterday to get the cargo divider they owed me and there was no mention of the recall. Granted I didn't ask but there mine sat in front of the dealership and a few new ones still on the lot also have the skid plate still installed. I don't know what the recall is about but the dealership that I go to don't seem to know about it.
not verified info, but word is that production on the 'current' skidplate has stopped, and if you wanted to add one, like I did, you have to wait until the 'new' batch of skidplates come out, which is why its supposedly being called a recall. I don't think you will see toyota have current skidplate owners bring the 1st plates back, its just that I'm going to have to wait a while longer than I anticipated.
Yeah you're right. My dealer said that I might not get my plate until sometime in January...ugh...I love the look. I never take my truck off-roading but I love the aggressive look that it gives the truck.

How in the heck can you have a recall on a skidplate? I have one on my 05 Tacoma and all it is is a overpriced piece of aluminum that looks cool.
official word on the skidplate, from toyota parts dept....
the skid plates will NO LONGER be sold in their current form, and that any and all parts are on 'no-sale' HOLD status.
The reason for this is that the current part vibrates and causes both a vibration AND a noise, and they are going to obviously REVISE that problem and release a new part this spring.

....guess I'm playin the waiting game again
I drive 160 miles a day on the highway at 75mph and haven't heard or felt any vibration with my skidplate?
