TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "AUX Jack in Tacoma", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
It would be very cool if the new 2008 Toyota Tacoma came with an AUX jack for an ipod. Same stereo and everthing just with a little hole for the ipod. It would be cool becuase I bet many people, including me, would buy the stereo and install it on their 2005-2007 tacomas.
This is a common request. Several companies make add-on ipod interfaces for the stock radio. I believe USA Spec is one and Peripheral is another. They simply plug into a jack that already exists on the back of the stock radio. Most people route the cable into the glove box. You can operate the ipod through the radio controls so you can leave the ipod in the glovebox out of sight. Search the forum and you should find alot of info already here...

Looking at Circuit City's website it says the Metra adapter my require disconnecting the factory CD changer or satellite features. Is this the case on your vehicle? I would like to maintain the factory CD changer.
How long did it take you to install, and and do you know if this adapter does the same thing as the more expensive USA Spec and Peripheral models?
Thanks,

Sorry for the delayed response...spend most of my time at TN. The Metra plugs into the external CD changer port on the stock stereo. If you have the built in 6 disc changer, it will not effect it. Took about 15 minutes to install. Appears to perform the same as the USA Spec, but I don't have an Ipod, so I can't guarantee that the song info will appear on the HU screen (I use the aux port for my Creative MP3 player and KRZR phone).
Well, you are in luck. The 2009 Tacoma includes an Aux jack. Or, you can add one to ANY Tacoma radio for about $40 with a little gizmo called the DF-TOY that plugs into the CD changer port on any 2005+ Taco deck and gives you 2 inputs. There are fancier boxes to run iPods and such directly...
I purchased an adapter from USASpec USA Spec for a single CD stereo. Every once in a while it will cut off and with the engine off I have to disconnect the RCA plugs and push them back on. Everything works fine for a few months. Why this happens I don't have any idea.
I will say the truck has a chincy sounding radio though. The CD player is fine but the radio has the worst tone I've ever heard in a new auto or truck..
dan, & other metra users.....glad to learn about the Metra. I was sold on the DF-TOY till I found out you can't get it anymore. From what I've seen on the web, the Metra looks to have a box that you can plug ipod or other mp3. Is that correct? I assume the ipod plug charges too? The box looks like a S-video connector or something, and you plug an ipod cable or a mini-plug to it, for whichever cable your needing. If that's correct, looks better than the DF-TOY to me.
