I've owned my tacoma for only half a year but I love it and would buy another. I have the manual 4.0 and it sure is a blast to drive.

Had mine for 3 years and over 30K. I'd buy the exact model again. No other vehicle is this reliable, holds its value, is this easy to maintain, can haul plenty in the bed & people in the cab (Dcab), tow 6500 lbs, have sharp handling, go about anywhere, be fun to drive (6spd), do 0-60 in 7 sec, and still get great mileage for a 4x4 truck (I avg 19.5 all summer, 2 less in winter). Will have mine for a decade.

Only problems:

-Rear leaf springs squeaked and bottomed under half to full loads.
That was fixed free by dealer with the 4 leaf upgrade per the TSB.

-Clutch pedal squeak, (like the old gen taco too) mostly in dry summer, but dont hear it much with exhaust and stereo anyway. Read the TSB only fixes for a few months and it comes back, so haven't bothered.

I know this is a Tacoma thread but, I own a 07 Tundra 4x4 DC 5.7 and would step down to a new Tacoma if it weren't for having to use premium gas in the V6. The Tacoma only gets a few more miles per gal. but having to use premium just doesn't justify buying a new Tacoma these days.

Unless things have changed since we bought our new '05 DC 4x4 three years ago, you're in luck. The Tacoma does not require premium fuel, and never did -- though many people have been confused by the wording in the owner's manual.

87 octane (regular) is the required fuel. 91 octane is recommended for maximum power and efficiency -- which means the ECU will take advantage of the higher octane if it's available, but the engine is perfectly happy on the required 87.

Some people report better mileage or smoother/quieter engine operation with premium, and I won't argue with them -- but that has not been my experience. I tried 91 for well over 3K miles and found no discernible difference in sound, feel, or mileage -- and yes, I keep accurate records. Our Tacoma has ~28K miles, mostly on 87 octane, and zero issues.

Same here - I use regular gas with no problem and I still have plenty of power to haul and tow. I have an '05 V-6 auto (my first ever automatic) extra cab and I love it. I will have it paid for in less than 2 years and I plan to drive it well past that. I have had almost no problems with it and I still enjoy driving it every time I get behind the wheel. House projects have been in high gear for the last couple of months and my Tacoma brings home the stuff I need almost every weekend. I would buy this truck again in a heartbeat!

I would still buy my Tacoma, just this time a 4x4 non-TRD O/R w/ the TRD supercharged in it... I have an '07 TRD Off-Road Double Cab...

I just got my third Tacoma in a row so that would be a big yes for me.

2001 Tacoma Xtra cab, V-6, 5 speed, TRD off-road, Radiant Red
2005 Tacoma Access cab, V-6, 6 speed, TRD off-road, Radiant Red
2008 Tacoma Access cab, V-6, 6 speed, TRD off-road, Radiant Red

I wanted to wait until 2009 to get another Tacoma but once I found out there would be no radiant red I decided to go with a 2008 and after seeing what Toyota did to the read seats and the big ugly x-man speaker in the back I'm sure glad I did.

I just looked on the Toyota website to see what they did to the '09 rear seats but all I could find is photo's of 2008's. What did they do to them?

UGGGH, I agree with you on that, and thanks for the pix. It does look like it might be little more comfortable if you had to actually sit back there(just as long as you're under 4' tall or a double leg amputee), but that big speaker looks like it would be right in the way, and the seats/storage look like they wouldn't be as user friendly for storing stuff and carrying stuff back there. Overall, a big step back. Glad you got your '08 just in the nick of time!

Did you see those headrest......OMG

and the seats fold up instead of down like the old ones which takes up more space. I really like the way the seats fold flat in the 2005 - 2008 more room for hunting and fishing gear.

Thought I would give my info..
bought my first Toyota truck in 1986, since then have had one every time I wanted to buy. Except when I went with a 4 Runner, before my Tacoma it was a Tundra. For me I put no real miles on them, and with my wife doing the dealing at the dealership I loose about a grand a year when I own them.
When I went searching for the Tacoma, my wifes company has a locate service, so no dealing (good thing). When I went to drop the Tundra off had 3 dealers and 5 people interested in buying it (5 years old 23,000 miles). Made a killing, but over all I am very pleased with Toyota, I know family gave me grap when I first came home with one, but I have the last laugh now, because now their is 9 in the family.
They speak for themselves, de-badge it, and boy the heads turn!

I was thinking about trading my 2007 Hemi Quad Cab for an Access Cab Tacoma TRD. No way with the new back seats. I need the flat folding floor to haul two golden retrievers. Oh well, I was going to take a beating on trading the Hemi.
