Ah, so that's what I'm missing...TRD Sport vs TRD Off Road. So, the SR5 I have comes with the same ones as the TRD Off Road. From looking at the pictures on that other thread, I think most were having problems with the wheels on the TRD Sport. Could be wrong, but maybe someone with the past problems will speak up? Now I'm really curious. I see above that Blazze2005 has the TRD Sport and the pitting problems (which is the impression I got from the other thread).

[QUOTE=blazze2005;838654]I have The 17" Aluminum Sport wheel on my 2005 Trd Sport Tacoma and 2 of my rims are showing signs of cancer behind the coating. They are starting to bubble under the coating in small areas.QUOTE]

Mine too. Never noticed till I took them off for the winter rims last week. I clean them every couple months during the year and they get to avoid salt and sand of winter sitting in my garage. Pretty lame as the steel 16's are doing great going into their 4th winter with no bubbling or rust.

Are bubbling rims covered under the corrosion warranty? My '05 TRD Sport rims are bubbling something fierce.

The short answer is no, they won't cover them. For corrosion warranty to kick in it has to be perforated.

However, if you have a good relationship with your service manager, they can "goodwill" warranty them, that is to keep a good customer happy. I had my front two rims bubble up after only two winters and had them replaced on a goodwill warranty.

I've got an 05 TRD Sport with the 17" aluminum wheels and they look good ... no signs of the clear coat giving out or pitting, etc. Demoncleaner -- sounds like yours have not seen any winter driving, so it's puzzling that they would be going bad. Here in Seattle we don't get much snow, but it's mostly just rain but my rims still look like new.

Sounds like some of these rims might have had some kind of flaw or defect during manufacturing. I'm wondering if the method they are cleaned might be some of the cause?

My 2005 TRD Sport wheels have been through 3 central Ohio winters - and although we don't get a huge amount of snow we do get a lot of salt on the roads. I also have to admit that I do not wash my wheels as often as I probably should, but mine are still pretty much perfect. I do give them a coat of wax in the fall, and that is about it. The wheels on my Supra, which had pretty much the same finish, looked like hell after a couple of winters. I wonder why some of the wheels are holding up and some others are not.

nothing like brining a post back from the dead, but my 07 Sport wheels are bubbling pretty bad, and I live in NJ and our winters have been anyhing but harsh. Minimal snow, and not much salt road driving, I only have 17,000 miles on them. Took it to the dealer today to see if they would do something about it, given the low mileage. They took pictures and sent them to the "regional rep." Let me know what you think of them I think they look pretty damn bad for being a 2 year old truck... And if anyone has gotten them replaced under warranty.

I don't have sport rims, just the regular TRD wheels. They started to bubble, just the front two. I got mine replaced under a "goodwill" warranty. Meaning they didn't have to, but did to keep a good customer. There is a black Sport around town and his wheels have almost completely lost thier clearcoat and look crappy. Maybe a bad batch of wheels?

I looked at your pictures - and I think your wheels look terrible. There must be some variability in the quality of the finish on those wheels. I now have four Ohio winters on mine - daily work commutes of about 50 miles through a fair amount of snow and salt and not one bubble or blemish. If Toyota tries to tell you that this is normal I can send you some pictures of the same exact wheels, driven under worse conditions that look perfect. Good luck.

I might expect to see damage like that on something 8 to 10 years old, but certainly not on a two-year-old truck. Good luck, though, I wouldn't be surprised if they refused to replace them. Let us know.

Oh, and good on ya for reviving an old thread -- it's better (imho) than starting a new thread for the same subject.

that's what I thought too, only 2 years what's it gonna look like in 5 to 10?? And yeah the search feature is where you always start... then see if anyone has anything to add. Keep all the suggestions and other examples in the same thread, less clutter.

All 4 of my 07 sport rims are blistering. Last week I had the dealer look at it, he took pictures and said he would call me when the new rims come in. Just hope some upper management dos'nt reject the order.
