This is a discussion thread titled "This Squeak Is Making Me Crazy! Please Help..", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
My 05 Tacoma TRD Sport is squeeking as I drive down the road and hit small or big bumps. I don't think it's the leaf springs though. If I stand on my back bumper step and shake the truck up and down their is no squeak.
If I shake the truck side to side I hear the squeak. Anybody know where this might be coming from? Could it be the Body Mounts?
Thanks for any info...Or TSB #'s on this Horrible Squeak

What's a rear spring silencer kit?
Perhaps the bushing/shackles of the leaf springs. They might only squeak when flexed side to side.
Or the friction pads between the leafs.
In either case, I would attempt to lube with WD40 initially and one at a time. WD40 would not be a pernament solution but it might find your squeak.
I know from personal experience that the friction pads will squeak if the u-bolts are over torqued. Though this was an up and down squeak for me.

If you apply some synthetic marine grease to the plastic pads at the ends of all the leafs in the spring pack the noise will likely be gone. I work for a toyota dealer and see this all the time. Also you might find the alignment shackles are rubbing the sides of the leafs.
I would recommend to jack up the body of the truck, therefore taking the wieght off the springs and put a pry bar between the leafs to seperate them and then apply the grease.
The alignment shackes have a plastic bushing on the sides that rub, these can be bent back abit so as not to rub.
Silicone or grease is your friend! Lube up the silencers, and any metal on metal on the rear leafs. Don't be shy with when doing this, spray it on heavy and it will work its way in. This happens at some point with all leaf spring type suspensions... Dont worry.

Since yours is an '05 it could very well be the leaf springs causing the squeak. Mine (although an '06) was caused by the spare tire/mounting - worse with warmer weather. I suppose you could temporarily remove the spare tire and go for a drive.
It is the leafsprings. I used to appply grease, then I just used an old bike tube and stuck it in between the leafs (old ford fix). No more squeak.
leaf spring tsb.... all they do is place plastic shims between the leafs....which eventually fall out..... the bike inner tube sounds like a better idea....
