Question Are JBA Headers worth it?

I have a 05 tacoma v6 4.0, and am going to get a new muffler, and maybe headers, and am wondering if anyone has put headers on there tacoma. And whats a better muffler to get magnaflow, or Borla, cat back system?

Everyone who has them says JBA are crap. You want these: Underdog Racing Development

Mufflers, I got a Magnaflow welded on to the stock piping. I personally don't see any advantage to a full cat back system because they all use the same 2.5" piping as stock.

I looked into getting them once as I practically live next door to JBA. Know that if you do get them and don't like them, it would be expensive to remove them as they are welded on at the entrance to the catalytic converters. Moreover, after the exhaust manifolds are cut away from the cats, the opening has to be flared for a proper weld.
So, basically, if you don't like the sound, and want to go back, you'd probably have to buy new exhaust manifolds and the first set of cats.

What I know of the Doug Thorley's is you are taking your truck out of emission standards, hence the O2 simulator. Which is fine if your state doesn't inspect for that.

I do have JBA's catback (18" Magnaflow muffler) taking up space on the garage floor. To me, it sounds like $hit, but I'm old school.

So, you're the one person who I've seen that has them and doesn't think they're crap. Of course you want to justify the money you spent so I understand.

Thank you Sir...I stand corrected!! How could I have missed all those informative comments. I especially like the one's from "6shooter" , which certainly must be quoted below for all to see. I personally like this first one.

"jba's suck ***. don't buy them. they are a c**t to install-and they make ZERO difference in sound or performance in my opinion. do not bother. they are the only thing i regret putting on my truck-they SUCK."

Then the ever popular....

"TRUST ME.
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no NO."

One would certainly be a fool to not take that advice!!!

Oh, and I did some homework.....

Underdog Racing Development

You can see here that URD (who make great products btw... seeing I have the Short shift kit of theirs) happens to sell what....JBA headers!!

and look here...

Reviews: Underdog Racing Development

I found someone else who likes them!!!

Now that I have the smart arse outta me....Let's take a real look at this.

My JBA's have been on my truck for over 20,000 miles. They were the ONLY ones available @ that time. They were professionally installed by my buddie who owns a garage and does a little racing on the side. Install time was less than half the time they stated, and went perfectly. A week later, we re-torqued all bolts and looked for any signs of leakage. Again...flawless!!
Then the truck passed all emissions inspections @ my Toyota dealer.

Those along w/ the TRD CIA and Cat-back, have provided me w/ what I ( IMHO of course) believe to be the best scenario for my truck. Top quality parts, nice sound, nice gain, and it passes all the testing. I will be installing the Supercharger in approx. 4 months ( that WILL be the TRD and not the URD btw)

You know what they say about opinions....Doug Thorley, JBA, Borla, TRD, K & N....whatever blows your dress up buddie!!!

and just to show ya Im not a bad guy...I'll give YOU the Rep point!!!

I also have the Jba cat foward headers and have noticed very little difference other than the vehicle breathing better in high rpm's. I thought it was alot of fun welding, installing and test driving my truck. My verdict is its the best thing to add to your tacoma if you want zero issues with smogg. The Doug Thorrley do sound better and increase more hp.Jba gets a 7.5 out of 10
