TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "2008 Tacoma Seat Belt warning buzzer", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Anyone know if you can disable the annoying seatbelt reminder on the 2008 Tacoma? When you hit about 12 mph there is a warning that triggers even if you have an object on the passenger seat and the buckle is not latched.
Thanks.
I turned mine off, there was a post on toyota nation on how to do it.
You just get the ther driver seat, shut the door turn the key on and hold the odo for 12 seconds, the buckle the seat belt with while holding the odo button, the odo will rear belt-on, push it to it says belt off, that all. turn off. now it will just beep, for a few seconds while you start it. Its the same process as the my Corolla was.

Can someone translate this into English for me? I've re-read it four times now and can't make it out.
I have the dog in the car a lot and her weight is enough to cause the buzzer to go off repeatedly.

Here's the instructions from that other website. Never tried it myself, but others there did and couldn't believe that it actually worked! This sounds more like it gets rid of the driver's seat belt chime, but it also sounds like that's tied into the blinking passenger seat belt light. So, let us know if this works because I haven't tried it myself.
Seat belt chime
1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting car)
2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO"
3. Turn the ignition switch off
4. Turn the ignition switch on
5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more.
6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front drivers's side seat belt.
7. Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on")
8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off".
9. Turn the ignition switch off.
10. Turn the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal.
11. Check that no buzzer sounds when setting on the front passenger seat.
About a year ago I had the same problem on my truck, but was unable to find any information on how to turn off the seat belt chime.
So, I went to the toyata parts/service department, told them my brother was fat and asked for seatbelt extentions for him. They gave me two for free. Just clip them in and it will disable the chime on both seats.
Crude but effective.
1) Turn the Truck 'ON', but do not start the engine. Cycle your trip reset knob until it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off. Wait a couple of seconds.
2) Make sure seat belt is not fastened
3) Turn the ignition back on, do not start the truck. As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob and do a long 12 second count.
4) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten your seat belt, as soon as you fasten your seat belt, you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". You should be all set and turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt.
Long Version from repair manual:
This setting is only valid for the buzzer which sounds at the 5 km/h (3 mph) or more.
SEAT BELT BUZZER ON/OFF SETTING (Procedure "A")
The seat belt buzzer ON/OFF setting, which is a setting of the buzzer function of the combination meter, can disable the driver and front passenger side seat belt buzzers.
"b-oFF" indicates that the buzzer is OFF.
"b-on"indicates that the buzzer is ON.
The seat belt buzzer ON/OFF setting will be finished (the odometer will display "ODO") if the ODO/TRIP switch is not operated for 10 seconds or more.
In this case, perform step 11 to check that the buzzer ON/OFF setting is complete.
If it is not complete, start from step 1 again.

Yup! I did mine as well with your instructions and it works like a charm! Now when the dog rides up front in the passenger seat that darn chime won't go off.
I have an '08 Tacoma Access cab and I can not get this procedure to work. The manual says to disable the alarm contact the dealer but does not give the procedure. I tried it with the key on acc and then the next position also without any luck. Anyone have any luck following this procedure on an '08?
Thanks Chiggens for posting the info, this was one of my biggest annoyances on my 08 compared to my 96. I usually wear my seat belt but found pulling aways from drive thru's etc. would bug me.

I'm not sure if the Tacos are same as the Tundras but when that light on the dash got annoying enough i simply reached under the seat and disconnected the electrical connector that tells the vehicle someone's in the driver's seat. Same w/the passenger seat. I was gonna cut the wires but figured unplugging it was even easier, and reversable if necessary.
<--- '08 Taco. FYI the buzzer it turns off is only the one that you get when moving, or after unfastening your belt. NOT the one that goes off right after engine start.
