Thanks for the heads up about Thule. No black wheels for me. Once I get the 5100 shocks installed that I have on order, I'm pretty much done with the mods to the truck.....except for maybe headers.
Damn it TRDSport you bought my truck and optioned it the way I wanted it
Looks awesome !! A friend of mine told me about the tread and I had to check it out. I have been looking for a while and narrowed down my choices. Last week I test drove the SB and Manual Version of your truck and then drove a SB, Auto with the TRD offroad (red). After having a conversation with my wife and friends I decided Automatic which allows me to get the LB. So next thing I know I get to see exactly what it would look like.
Very nice and good luck with all your mods....................

Thanks.....let me know if you want more pics of anything.
I had the same problem as Toyo_tundun- How to secure stuff on the factory roof rack. I finally decided that the Yakima Universal mighty mounts did the job I needed them to do-bascially secure my snowboard rack and/or canoe.
After looking at the way the whole factory rack bars lock in, I wasn't comfortable with it. I ended up taking off the factory rack and using a Yakima crossbar over the front of the cab and Yakima bars on the ARE shell. I feel much more secure with the bulletproof Yakima setup then with the factory rack. Glad I saved those weatherstrips as well. A bit of new 3M adhesive tape and they went right back on where they came off.

X-pel 3M paint protection film, Coverking seat and dash covers, OEM bed mat and all-weather floormats, Valor exhaust tip, Wheelskins leather steering wheel cover, Japanese 90915-20004 oil filters, Filter-Mag, and Redline fluids.
Before I picked up the factory rack I had concerns about how strong it would be. But after having two 50 lb kayaks on it I feel pretty good that its a stable platform. Eventually I want to install a Yakima basket on it, along with some lights.
The install was quite easy, I didnt have any problems except for the crappy bolts. One of the heads stripped out. So my only suggestion is to run down to the local hardware store and buy some good ones.

Yeah, I had one of the bolts strip on me too. Weren't you the one that was going to make a custom rack? Decided to go with the OEM rack instead?

Yep, that was me. I chickened out for now. I talked to a local machine shop guy that my work is constantly dealing with about it, he said considering theres basically no straight surface a 5 or 6 (or something like that) axis milling machine would have to be used. He mentioned it would be quite costly just to make a proto and suggested that I find someone to finance it. Too involved for me. Depending on how crazy this coming summer is I may try another approach that would eliminate the need for a machine shop, but still produce very strong and nice looking mounts. For now the factory rack seems to be ok.

I installed one on my truck! It worked out very nice. Wasn't that difficult. Just give yourself time. You'll end up taking off the existing molding which by the way someone else will probably want to buy off of you because they want to take their roof rack off. Hold on to them.
And unlike the Toyota install instructions, you dont have to break those plastic clips in order to install the rack. So, if you ever do decide to remove the rack, you can fit the moulding back on.
