I have searched, but I couldn't find an answer to my question.
Has anyone installed the factory roof rack on their own? How difficult is it? I know the holes are already in the roof. Does the headliner have to be removed?
Also, if anyone has the factory roof rack and wants to sell it, let me know.
Thanks for posting that. It does look pretty easy. Where did you find those instructions?
Google search ("05 tacoma roof rack"). It's amazing what I can find on Google...including links to Tundra Solutions forums topics that I can't find when I search the same thing in the forum!
How much are the factory roof racks? At the time, I didn't realize you could buy and install them after the fact. So, when I needed some way to haul our 2 kayaks (one's a 2 person sit-on-top that's 13 feet long), I went other routes. I purchased a Yakima rack for over the cab above the rear doors and a Yakima DryDock hitch rack. Works well, but I do like the looks of the factory racks. I'll have to take a picture this summer with the boat on the truck and post it here.

I got a good deal on mine. One of the local dealerships has started selling parts on ebay at reduced prices. On top of that, they allow local pick-up so I don't have to pay shipping charges. I paid $200 for my roof rack.

oh, and good luck with the install. dont forget to post pics.

It was a fairly easy install. The only problem I had was getting the last freakin bolt to line-up and catch the threads. I will eventually use it carry ski's....I didn't like the idea of them being loose in the bed. I will also use it to help tie down large items such as ladders and lumber. I also simply really liked how it looked.
Sorry, got sidetracked...pics will be up tomorrow.
Funny, but I also had a really terrible time with the last bolt. My memory is that it was the one right above the drivers seat, but it could have been any of them. Stripped one and finally had to use a longer, harder steel one and got it in.
Aside from that, it was easy, Just take it one bolt at a time. Took me less than an hour. My only caution would be to save the rubber trench strips that you have to pull out in case you ever want to un-install it. I do not want to un-install it, but I wish I had saved those strips. Perhaps they're a dealer item, but I cannot imagine paying for them.
Anyway, it's a very easy install. I think you'll need a large torx. Forgot the number, though. Could it be 30? I need more coffee.....
Looks nice.but what are you going to use it for?? Only think i can think of is bikes and a canoe
The Tundra Crew Max could have a HUGE ROOF RACK! lol it would prob look pretty ugly though. Im a bigger fan of the cage racks. ARB makes a nice looking one for the FJ.

Well, I think it looks great. I sure do like these trucks in that blue! I went with white due to long-term maintenance...hides dirt better especially in the snow and touch ups to the paint don's show at all. Anyway, later this summer I'll post a pic of mine with the yakima rack, drydock, and kayak on top.
Thanks. Took the truck through the car wash before taking the pics and I have not seen any signs of water getting into the cab. If anyone is planning on adding the roof rack yourself, you should know you need a T25 and T30 Torx bit. The instructions that were posted only mention the T25.
looks good! only thing is, now i think this truck needs black rims to go with the black and blue theme ...
oh, and i was looking this weekend at how i would carry stuff up there. found two hooks on each side, but im not sure how secure that would be. so i did some searching and it looks like thule makes a locking ski/snowboard rack that fits onto these racks. 119.00 for the set so i may be looking into that more.
