I've had my 05 Tundy 4.7 for a couple of years now. It has nice power. I test drove a Tacoma before I bought my Tundra. I remembered it as being quite a bit more powerfull than the Tundra. Axceleration wise. Well, I test drove a Tacoma this week again, and didn't find it as fast. Now maybe it just felt different.
So, I wanted to ask has anyone put the two trucks side by side and ran them? without breaking the law of course, don't want any memebrs jumping down my throat telling me how dangerouse speeding is.
Just thought I would ask.

I raced a 05 Access cab a couple of months ago and it was very close, we started at about 50 and all the way to about 75 it was like I was racing the exact same truck and then I slightly pulled ahead but it was very close!

So, does the exhaust and cold air intake REALLy make much of a diff. I kinda chaulk it up like a K&N air filter, just more bs, no real world performance that can be measured at the track.

Car and Driver 4x4 v6 6spd - 7.4
Car and Driver 4x4 v6 auto - 7.1
Motor trend 2wd v6 auto - 6.9 edmunds who is always slower, think it was around 8 sec.
Comes down to body style and driveline, a dcab 4x4, is gonna be carrying 1000lbs more than a 2wd reg cab.
A 4.7 Tundra (pre-07 body style) may be a touch slower 0-60, but not much to the comparable 4.0 v6 Tacoma model. When buying a truck, that difference doesn't mean much to me.

I don't know about acceleration, but my '06 tacoma owners manual tells me that the max. speed in 5th gear is 204 kph! (121mph). A pickup with a gear to go at 120mph, try that in a Ranger. I did a cruise control run last summer on the prairies, 190kph in 6th for 45 minutes, flawless, my wife sitting next to me didn't notice for 1/2 hour. These Taco's have legs and no apparent governor.

I've noticed that too. My last truck was an '05 GMC Sierra and it was very powerful and smooth, but for some reason, once I got it up to about 75mph on the interstate, it felt like I was really pushing it. On the other hand, in my Taco Sport, which comes with some pretty unaggressive tires that are great for road driving but not as good for serious off-roading, several times I've found myself having inadvertantly let the speed creep up to over 90mph and it's just as smooth and stable feeling as it was at 50. But I've also noticed that when you get much over 60, the gas mileage suffers so who knows how bad it is when you're doing 90 plus.
As far as acceleration goes, the Taco has all the acceleration I would want in a truck and occasionally I still get surprised when the light turns green and I hit the gas pedal. I hadn't tried a max acceleration at higher speeds until recently when merging onto the highway, when I was doing about 50 and floored it. Never had a truck do that before!
When I was out in Virginia, I was heading from Norfolk down to Raleigh NC, and decided to see what mine could do. Heading south on I-95, I punched it. At 105MPH, I finally backed off because I was passing everything in sight and Virginians don't have a tendency to let folks by, I had to brake out of my continued acceleration. At 105MPH, it was still pushing on. I'm sure I could have pushed it to at least 115-120MPH if not for traffic. I don't know what my governor is set at, but I was only around 3800RPMs. I know I've pushed it to just under the red line on more occasions than I choose to remember, because of the suck traffic in Virginia, but as for the top gear, I don't know. Maybe now that I'm back in Texas, I'll try to open her up all the way and see what she can really do. Lord knows I've got the space for it here in the Panhandle. If I top out the speedo, I'll let you know.

You are so lucky you didnt get caught........lol I got pulled over in VA on 77 and now i owe like a 800 fine
The Tacoma is faster. I think the only 1st gen Tundras that can beat a Tacoma are the 05/06 Access Cab V8's. And they usually only beat the doublecabs, 2wd access cab Tacomas are unbeatable. well, I guess I'm the exception

u wont go over 110 mph unless u are going down hill. i have hit the speed limiter many times in germany on the autobahn and never made it past 110
