TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "FJ TRD Wheel anger.", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I stopped into my dealer Monday to see about ordering a set of the Anthracite FJ wheels for my Tacoma. The parts department looked them up and found some and said they would be in on Wednesday(today).
I just got a call from the parts department, advising that Toyota would not release them without my VIN #. I know where this is leading! I have a funny feeling that they won't sell them to me because I don't have an FJ SE or whatever they come on.
Still waiting for a call from Parts.
I'm tempted to find one one the road and ask the owner if I can "borrow" his VIN#!
Why ask? Just find one in a parking lot and read the VIN thru the windshield...of course, the success of this method depends on the follow thru of Toyota because it's possible they will look up the owner's name from the VIN to see if you really are the owner.
Well, it's official. Toyota said that they would not sell me the wheels because they are a "limited edition" and I don't have a FJ Limited Edition. In fact, they questioned why I needed four wheels, which clued them in that I wasn't just replacing one.
I wouldn't be mad at Toyota. Just get back online and go shopping. I believe it was Champion in Houston that stocks these wheels and will deliver to your doorstep for a reasonable price. Just my .02

Not anymore, they have been restricted like everyone else from selling these wheels, trust me I tried through Shannon.
I am seriously considering buying the regular FJ TRD wheels and painting them anthracite for all the BS this is causing.
Reserve still isn't met at 5 bills with almost 2 for shipping, but I bet if someone lived there they could pick up for free.

You can get them off ebay new. I got a set a few months back. Look up "texastoyota". That is where I got mine.
Are you talking about the regular silver TRD wheels, cause I have those on a watch list from texas toyota. I've never seen the anthracite (dark gray)ones from a dealer on ebay. I've seen one for sale and then this guy with a used set.

Yes, the ones I got were dark grey. The ones I see they have on there right now look like the light grey ones. Shoot them an email and ask. Enclosed is a pic of them on my truck.

I have the same color truck, those wheels look so good on that color (any color really). I just sent an email to them, here's hoping. Otherwise it's the light gray ones and I'm having a body shop shoot them dark gray.

That's a good looking truck you got there.
BTW, if you don't like the location of your satellite antenna, you can run it thru the driver's door area, stuff the wire into the front fender, and set it on top of the front fender right there at the windshield in that little flat area. Will be less noticeable and works like a charm there. Best of all, no need to take anything apart to place it in this location.
Texas Toyota just emailed me back, they don't have and can't order that wheel anymore. I guess it was worth a shot. On to plan B.
