TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Improved Tacoma seats?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
My 2008 Access Cab's front seats are about 3 inches too short and more thigh support is needed, has anyone modified or replaced their seats?
My wife doesn't want to ride in the passenger seat because it is too uncomfortable, does anyone know if the 4Runner Limited or Lexus GX front seats will fit and be compatible with the Tacoma's seat wiring?
I wrote a reply but may not have hit "Submit Reply" ..... or perhaps I was ... .
The seat's depth is in my opinion is a little shy. I find myself on longer trips placing my "seat" back in the seat. As far as leg room I have plenty (6'1" - 212). I have placed about 4 washes under the front to raise it a bit. Not too much --- perhaps it is in my mind.
As far as replacing them with something else. Research bolt hole patterns to see.
Good Luck.

The leg room was long enough during testing, the seat seemed like it could use a longer cushion but I thought I would get used to the SR5 seats. However, after several hours the seat's comfort is wanting. With limited head room I wonder about fiting a 1x2" steel tube as a spacer under the seat's mounting tracks, has anyone done that yet?
I have a discomfort problem when riding in the passenger seat for more than an hour in our '91 Lexus LS400 (both leg and foot room is too small)and my wife does not. I am 6'2" and 265# and my wife 5'8" and 150#; we need seats built for full sized Americans. As seniors, seats low to the floor are no longer nice for long drives.
We both find the seats in our long tall Sprinter Class-B RV to be excellent, the ability to pull a lever and extend the seat cushion forward, plus raise and lower for front and back of the seats, is a great MB feature that more vehicles could benefit from. The Sprinter's seats are also higher off the floor than the Tacoma's seats. I can drive the Sprinter for 500 miles between fuel stops and still feel comfortable.
I do want the Tacoma to be my "Fun Truck", and tow it behind my Sprinter when touring North America!

I have issues with the seats also. The same issue I had with a Honda I had. The discomfort doesn't kick in until after an hour or so. For me, I believe it is the length of the seat also. The best I can do is move the seat a bit forward so my left leg is not so straight. It helps to keep the back of my thigh off the seat as that is where the pain starts.
Strange, the seats in my BMW Z3 didn't look or feel much different than the Honda's but I could drive that car all day.
I talked with an upholstry shop a while back. He said they and many shops will not work on seats anymore as it is hit or miss in trying to satisfy any particular customer.
If I was to try to retrofit any other seat to the truck, it would not be any Japanese model. But with the airbags and all, I doubt I ever will.
My prescription muscle relaxers really help.

I put 3 washers under the front seat mounts. Big improvement! after 2 years the seats are much more comfortable, I think they just needed to break in a little.
I don't get bothered by a mediocre seat on a 10 minute test drive. I'll be hyper aware next time I make a purchase though. The TRD seats have an extended lower area on the seat that would help. I would also like to have more comfortable seats, but there is no way that I could afford to do that. A used pair of seats would probably cost at least $600.
I bought some Wet Okole seat covers which extend the the front area about an inch & a half to two inches. they are exceptionally comfortable & worth the money - IMHO (although I do have the Sport seats, which are longer in the lower cushion)
** On a side note, perhaps some members here could put less effort into criticizing others choices, & more effort into providing the help\advise sought from this website. ~ just a suggestion...
