TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "TSB and a Thank You!", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
This is the best site for information, I just want to say Thanks!
I read about the rear spring TSB, stopped by my dealer and they ordered parts right then and there.
I have a few questions for anyone whom has had this done.
On a non TRD truck, As I understand it they replace rear springs and all 4 shocks, with Bilstein's.
How long for springs to come inn? Ive heard stories...
How high does it make rear end? ... some say it settles back down?
Are the Bilsteins yellow like the TRD's?
Thanks
Jerry

On a non TRD they do replace your stock "Black" shocks with "Blue and Yellow" Bilstein's, and the rear 3 leaf pack with a 4 leaf pack. My springs took about 3 days to arrive, it raised the rear about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches. No settling so far, but I have heard that some do settle.

Even if it raises the rear by 1 1/2 inches and never settles even a little bit, if you consider the angle that's formed by one side of the triangle being 1 1/2 inches and the other side being the total length of the truck (208" for an access cab), the angle formed comes out to less than half a degree difference from the way it was before. Sitting in the drivers seat, you'll not be able to tell the difference unless your eyes are MUCH more finely calibrated than mine are. Only if you park side by side a pre-TSB Taco can you tell the difference and even then it's not obvious.
I didn't say I had any problems with it, he just asked how it raised the rear. After the TSB I measured from the ground through the center of the wheel to the lip of the wheel well. 37 1/4in. on the passenger side, and 37in. on the drivers side (with a full tank of gas).

I have my TSB 4 leaf springs since August of last year and they have settled to the point that I am only 1/2" higher than before the TSB. Right after the TSB was done, it was almost 1.5" of lift.
I have towed a lot and put heavy loads in the bed many times, so I am sure mine settled faster than other people's springs, but it's just a matter of time for those to also come back down I think.
Hi - i'm a newbie from RI and absolutely love my new (used) 05 Tacoma. I went down to Jersey to get the one I wanted. I'm coming up on the 33k mile mark and was wondering should i get this done. I will be towing a race car and will carry many parts and tools in the bed (for those days that the turn 4 wall reaches out and pulls me in). Or should i get some aftermarket stuff. Previously towed with a 93 toyo pickup V6 4X4 with broken leaf springs on both sides from carrying 1500# of granite curbing and towed fine but 3.0 was getting tired. WOW this 4.0 6speed is fast. Thanks for your time!!

I think you should go for it, its free why not . Sounds like if your going to try it you'd better get on it though (depending on how much you drive ). Keep us posted .

yes i'm going tomorrow after work, i have 3 toyota stealers near me but the closest one is one that i did not buy my toyota from, looked at one there but they were asking 5k more than i paid for mine. I will print out the TSB to show them if any "problems" arise. Gonna get the in-service date first since it may have been over 3 years, but still under 36k. may have the guys at work bounce up and down in the bed though just to be sure the bumpers have rubbed, or put my Yam 426F dirt bike in the back real quick. Looks like previous owner never had anything back there. i'll keep you posted. Thanks
