I have been able to make several other vehicles honk when pressing the 'lock' button twice on the remote. Can this be done on the 08 Tacoma TRD Sport? Right now mine only locks the door, no 'honk'.
Thanks,
Matthew

Thats a good question i wish i had the answer to. I have an 06 and i would like to be able to disable to the horn when locking and unlocking, other vehicles i have had you do it with the key fob. My old subaru if you held done both button on the remote it would either enable or disable the honking of one's horn.

I was wondering about this as well, more so as why they changed it. My dad has an 03' Tacoma and his beeps (realy loud) when locked and unlocked, honestly its kind of anoying. I would say the majority didn't like the beep, but I wouldn't mind a brief honk.
To me the small 'honk' just ensures that the doors did lock, just a personal preference. I checked the owners manual, and I could not figure out how to change it. I once had a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and you changed it via the control center (compas, temp, etc). Maybe someone out there knows the trick!

You can accomplish the same thing by watching the lights blink when you hit the button. That way everyone within earshot whose own personal preference is to be doing anything from having a quiet conversation, to taking a nap, to just enjoying some peace and quiet, isn't forced to share in your "personal preference" every time you lock/unlock your doors. Do all the millions of cars in the whole United States REALLY need to honk their horns every time their doors are locked or unlocked by a remote control? It's something we've all kinda gotten used to over the years, but wouldn't it be nicer to not have to listen to that in addition to all the other obnoxious noises we hear every day? I like my truck just the way it is, and so does everyone who isn't forced to listen to its horn honking several times a day. If someone out there knows the "trick," please keep it to yourself!

That was pretty funny, thanks for the laugh. Yeah I prefer no noise and was pleased when I found out the horn doesn't go off. (Got it 2 days ago). I have always liked the silence and a visual from the lights is perfect.
On a side note, not to hijack, I noticed something unique. I unlocked it via key fob, walked out to the truck after a couple minutes and heard the truck lock on it's own. Sure enough the truck was locked. Does it automatically lock if you press unlock on the fob but don't open the door in a set amount of time?

If you unlock the truck w/the FOB and don't open a door within 30 secs. it will lock back up again

Good to know, cool feature thanks. I was hoping it wasn't electronic gremlins.
no trick available. if you want the "beep" sound, you have to splice a pierzo chirper to your turn signal. the toyotas that "beep", not honk usually have the factory alarm installed, which includes a pierzo (you can buy 'em at Radio Shack for $7-10) chirper.
I logged on to this forum to find a solution to my neighbor's Tacoma. He uses the keyfob all day long and it chirps upwards of fifty times if not more, and it's exceedingly loud. It might be an 04 Tundra or earlier model.
What is the method for disabling the chirping? The lights already flash.
