TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "LED tail lights", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I am new here and looking for LED tail lights for my tacoma 07. I don't like the ones I've seen so far on ebay. Are there any kits around to build your own or better looking after market lights? tnx Michael.
You may want to douible check with law enforcement. The state I live in will not allow LED's on motorcycles. I do not know about cars. You can install them on motorcycles, but when your registration renewal takes place you have to go through an inspection station and they will not pass inspection if you have LEDs, according to the instructors of the motorcycle safety classes.
What about the 4Runner's LED tails? I'm not sure if they are a direct fit since Toyota is known for changing little things during the mid-cycle refresh, like my MR2's taillights.

Interesting. So, hybrid vehicles are illegal in your state because of the LED taillights? I'm guessing it was an aftermarket jobby that wasn't the proper brightness...a lot of those aftermarket taillights do not meet the minimum brightness levels (for 2 or 4 wheel vehicles).

That's interesting since just about every sport motorcycle manufactured since 2003 has been using an LED brake light. I think you have been mis-informed. The AMA is pretty good about keeping these laws updated, and as you can see, no where does it specify that LED taillights are not permitted. Delaware state motorcycle laws
I think what you are referring to is a Integrated Tailight which combines the turn signals and brake light into one, which is a very common modification amongst all sportbike riders. Now that is pretty much illegal throughout the country where inspections are required because you no longer have blinkers on your bike. I personally have an integrated tailight on my bike because frankly I hate the way those huge obnoxious blinkers looked on it. I have extra LED's in the pegs that blink though and they provide a good alternative.
