Default Have to get a newer Toyota.

I have to say first that this forum is awesome.

I have a 93 4x4 Ex cab with 200k, put a reman motor in it in March of 07.
We found out my wife was pregnant in May. The plan was to keep the 93 as it is in awesome shape, well the first time we placed the baby car seat in it we knew that we were going to need a 4Dr.

I would like to have the new body style as it is larger than the 04's but seems to be lots of TSB's on the new ones. What do I need to be aware of when I am test driving an 05 or newer model. I am a stay home Dad and need to be wise with purchasing a new vehicle. I keep vehicles a really long time. I just cant see myself going out and buying one of the "Big 3" Autos after 15 yrs with a Toyota as they are junk and look like crap. I really love my yota........

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

2004-2006 Toyota Tundra Double cab will be perfect for your needs.

You will get a very reliable and very good 4.7 iForce and a very nice interior. Be sure to get leather seats...solid materials and solid construction you really can't go wrong. Limited ride if probably the best riding truck there is.

Good luck!

I work at a Toyota dealership and I drive an 07 DC Taco, there aren't alot of issues with the taco's mainly the leaf spring tsb which I just had done. They are solid and awesome trucks, as are the tundra's. I just love the look of the taco's. I would say the only reason to shy away from the taco is if you are tall as you won't have alot of rear leg room with the driver's seat far back.

Thanks TacoCrazy, I am tall But I am like you I love how they look. You must be an excellent resource for this forum being that you work at a dealer. What do you think I should have to pay for an 05-06 with say 50-60k on it? 4wd DC of course.

Thanks

I am 6'4" and when I set the drivers seat to my liking, I can still sit comfortably in the rear seat. Don't know why I would need to sit in the back of my own truck while I am driving, but if I had to it would be no big deal. My '08 DC is the only vehicle I have owned where I don't have to put the seat ALL the way back for me to fit. The only other vehicle I have done that in was my father-in-law's F250 DC

I've got an '05 DC LB and have only had 1 TSB done...sort of (I had fixed e-brake nuts the night I took it home and called the dealership to report the problem...which months later turned into a TSB). They still did the TSB months later, but I had already fixed it.

You hear so much from people about TSBs but the reality is that most Tacos out there probably haven't had many, if any, TSBs done on them. The rear leaf TSB is likely the most talked about on the forums and that's a preference issue depending on how you use the truck (I really don't haul anything heavy enough to max out the rear leafs).

So, don't worry about the TSBs when considering the truck! It's still one of the most trouble-free vehicles I have ever owned and have had it for almost 3 1/2 years.

I wouldn't give up on the 93 immediately. I too am the proud owner of a 93 and I put some high strength threaded links into the holes of my rear seatbelt brackets and I put my three year old's car seat in the front and use a heavy duty ratcheting tie down to cinch it down. Take a look at the latch system links, they are welded to sheet metal, I feel the eye bolts are a stronger anchor point and as for the ratcheting tie down, I have seen many heavy loads in aircraft held just fine by the same straps.

Sadly, having sad all of the above, my second son is on the way and I may have to finally get rid of the 1993, Congrats and good luck.
