Default Dumb question; limited slip diff

I just picked up a used 06 Tacoma with the TRD offroad package and the locking differential. Does it act like a limited slip when the locker is not engaged? I would think so but options on the TRD sport package show a LSD as standard equipment on the sport, locking on the offroad package. This has me confused, both tires hook up in dirt and gravel and there are no peg leg burnouts. So when it's not locked it acts like a LSD right?

With an Off-road, you've got an open diff when the locker is not engaged.

My only expreience with diff's are from building them in RC cars, forgive my ignorance. If it were a true open diff wouldn't power get planted to only one wheel, not both? (One with least resistance) Taking it off road the other day I rooster tailed both wheels all the time, no peg leg burnouts, making me think it's a LSD back there.

Get off-road, make a turn and hit it, inside wheel will spin. Flat and straight harder to notice. Hey you've always got the locker anyway.

The LSD vs. open/locker diffs are two completely different models. LSD rear diff is slightly larger cause of the clutch packs. If you look in manual you'll see you need different fluids and the LSD fluid needs changes more often than your open/locker.

Gotcha thanks, I have had RWD drive vehicles where the open diff was noticible by just one wheel spinning. When I noticed both spinning all the time (in a fairly straight line) it got me thinking about the diff in the rear.
