I had my truck on the lift recently and noticed on the rear dif there is a sticker that says 'only LSD oil.' Does this mean my truck has LSD ? I know LSD is an option on the PreRunner, but I'm sure I didn't select it while purchasing.

Congrats on figuring out you have a LSD rear diff, your owners manual should explain what oil to use and this site will tell you what Toyota Requires to honor warranty!
Toyota Parts and Service just enter your info and it will explain what and when stuff needs done!
Every few months there's a thread on here where someone improperly services their LSD or uses the wrong oil and then they have all kinds of problems. For some reason, the wrong oil affects its performance a surprising amount and sometimes even permanently damages it. Fortunately, it doesn't need much attention but when it does, this is one part of my truck that I wouldn't let anyone but my Toyota dealer touch. That way you know the right oil is being used and if there are problems, there's no question whose fault it is.
Hey it is pretty amazing a dealership can get something rite some of the time!![]()
Yes you/ve got a limited slip and that sticker is not just for show. Definitely make sure you have the correct oil installed if you need to have your diff serviced. I had a shop change mine, they used the wrong oil, and it moaned and groaned and chirped (even after 2 more flushes with the correct oil) until I finally got them to pay for a whole new diff for $2300 including labor. Toyota only sells the limited slip as a complete differential unit for $1800! I usually think that the dealer is too expensive for routine maintenance like this and not any more knowledgeable than any good mechanic, but I would recommend having Toyota service it when it comes time. They SHOULD know what to use, and if not, at least you know who to complain to. The Tacoma LSD is a great performing unit, its just EXTREMELY picky about what gear oil to use.
