TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "mod: HEADERS for Tacoma 4.0L", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hello folks, I thought it would be nice to get a good set of headers for my '07 Taco (4.0L) since I already have the TRD Intake + TRD Exhaust. First, does anyone have this same setting (intake + exhaust) + any Headers? Please name brands and if you have any details about the performance's difference please let me know... Also, I was cheking around and 3 brands got on my way: JBA, OBX, Doug Thorley. All of them have the shorty headers (welding required I think) and Doug Thorley has the long headers also, which are nice because they are BOLT-ON (NOT C.A.R.B. APPROVED, don't care still I would get 'em). Any recommendations? Which ones you have, heard are the best or any additional information to make up my mind? Also links to best prices would be nice.. Thanks again!

I spoke to a rep at Doug Thorley and he said that the long headers provide much better numbers than JBA, OBX, and their own shorty's. I also got the impression that since they are bolt on, they are fairly easy to swap every two years for us Californian's. I am waiting till after my first smog in October and then I will probably order the Doug Thorley Long headers. I personally like the idea of bolt on much better than having to weld to my new truck, especially before my warranty is up.
I have the TRD Exhaust and the AFE Intake (very similar to the TRD Intake).

Thanks for your reply.
I read that about the gain in numbers also. But I also read that DT Long Tube Headers are way too loud, with lots of in-cabin noise, I mean we don't care how loud it is outside, but when it gets to in-cabin noise, most of the time bothers you. I also remember OBX shorty's are bolt-on in one description but saw "minor welding required" at another web page.. confusing.
Hmm... good to know! I bet if you get them ceramic coated that would quite them down a bit.

Just some speculation that you may have to weld on new flanges to meet up with the shorty header to the down pipes (just seen that wording before and thats what it meant).
