Default Going in for Spring TSB

Well, I'm getting ready to go to Florida for a week so I figured it was a good time to try and get the Rear Spring TSB done. I have an '08 Double Cab and noticed how bad the springs are when I tried to pickup almost 700 LBS of salt for the pool and I was almost on the bump stops. I hope they don't try to push me around with it being an '08.

What is the best way to level out the front end once I get the TSB done?

I got mine done on my 08, first I called the toyota customer care number. Then the dealer called me to have my truck looked at by a regional Toyota Field Technical Specialist. The field tech made a phone call and I had my truck fixed the next day.

    Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks.

I got a set after my spring TSB, set them at 1.75 to level her out. Some pics...

    Before...

    After...

Its more level than the pic gives credit.
    Any Q's just ask.

Unless you've got money that's REALLY burning a hole in your pocket, I suggest you keep your wallet in your pocket. The TSB is only going to raise your rear bumper about an inch after the new springs get broken in and, unless you've got much more finely calibrated eyeballs than I do, you won't be able to tell the difference from the drivers seat or from beside the truck. At the least, I'd wait a few months until after the TSB is done to see how the new springs settle in, and how you like the way it looks. It's something you can always do later if you still think you need to.

I got my 08 done. I called Toyota Customer Service, but don't think I needed to. It had to get approved by the regional tech, and then approved by someone in CA? My selling point was that the springs on the 08 were the same part numbers covered in the TSB for the 05-07. Anyways, it's done. Good luck.

UPDATE: I spoke to the service guy this morning and he said that they put about 700 LBS worth of mechanics (2 sitting on the tail gate and one standing in the bed) and the springs were at about half compression...to which I responded "Try 1000 lbs because the truck is supposed to hold 1200." I have a feeling I'm going to be fighting with this guy over it, but as luck would have it my family is friends with the guy who owns the dealership...so, if need be, I'll be calling him.

aquasport17: I had not thought of the part # idea! I'll be breaking that out if he wants to fight with me! Thanks! What are the part #'s that I need so I can fire those off to him?

2nd UPDATE: I talked to the service guy today and he said they put 6 guys in the bed and it was fine so they are refusing to fix it. I left a messsage with the owner of the dealer. Hopefully he will help me out.

Write him a letter pointing out that the springs are supposed to be adequate to support the loaded truck not only when it's stationary, but also when you are driving down a bumpy road. So unless he took those 6 guys in the bed for a ride down a bumpy road, his test was meaningless. Also include in this letter the fact that you are experiencing a "harsh ride with heavy loads" because that is the language the TSB uses to describe the problem that it's supposed to address. Load your truck up with about a thousand pounds of anything (bags of wood pellets work well) and drive it down a bumpy road. You'll feel the rear springs bottoming out and the rubber stops will leave marks on the frame that you can show the dealer as evidence of the "harsh ride with heavy loads" you have been experiencing. If your dealer still won't do it, take your truck with marks above the stops and the letter describing the problem to another dealer along with a copy of the TSB. This is an issue that has been discussed on here a lot and most of us have had no big problem getting it done once we describe the "harsh ride..."

I had the springs changed on my 08. I brought it in saying I was experiencing a harsh ride when loaded. I never mentioned the TSB as I already had contacted Toyota's 1-800 # about it and they said my "issue would not be escalated" since the TSB did not include 08's.
The dealer replaced the springs with no guestions. On the bill it said 'Springs lost tension, replaced under warrenty". I assumed that when he ordered replacement springs he automatically got the upgraded ones.
You might try this approach at another dealer. As you know the TSB does not iclude 08's (yet) so you don't really have a leg to stand on when mentioning the TSB.
