Default OME coils/shocks or 5100 advice.

Hello all.

I have read a lot about lifting my 08 Tacoma. I am trying to decide between the Bilstein 5100's front (preload adjustable) and rear, or the complete OME 885 coils and shocks in front with 5100 shocks in rear.

I have the 4-Leaf pack (TSB) in the rear. Yeah, it's an 08. I was lucky

I'm looking for a stiffer off-road ride, and some slight lift. I will also want to install 265/75/16's instead of the 265/70's on it now.

Wheelers off-road claims 1.75" lift on a stock front 05+ Tacoma with the OME setup.

I have a 350 pound tounge weight on my trailer, and with the stock setup it's way to bouncy. When I'm off-road in sandy bumps, the front is too soft and I hit bottom easily with stock.

I have heard the OME's sag but have not heard of any specific cases - just rumors.

If money wasn't a concern between these two options, should I go OME coil/shock up front and 5100's in rear or 5100's all around?

Thanks for the advice.

Jeff

We installed Bilstein 5100s all around on Nicole's 07 Tacoma and it did an amazing transformation in ride and driving performance. You will get a slightly firmer off-road feel and easy adjustability for ride height and accessories. The rear shocks even helped dramatically. Sorry I couldn't help about OME as I have never had an experience with them.

In fact, the Bilstein 5100s inpressed me so much I ordered another set for my Tundra and LOVE IT!

That's great info, thank you. I see you have 285's on the truck. That give you a bit wider tire I would guess? How much of a performance hit did you take? I'm pulling 5200 pounds and can't afford much of a hit! Thanks again.

Haven't noticed much but we don't pull anything except a few hills. Our snow tires are 265/75R16 and can feel the lesser rolling resistance but that is about it.
