TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Saw a HILUX today??", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I was in Loveland, Ohio last night and a white double cab tacoma got infront of me. It had all the regular badging of a Double Cab Pre-Runner but the License Plate read "08 HILUX" and there was a badge on the top right of the tailgate that read "HILUX"... Anyone know what this is about? The pictures of the Hilux on google look nothing like the US Tacoma. The body style looked just like a standard double cab.
Poser?

I actually prefer the looks of the tacoma. The current-gen hilux looks like a Camry pickup to me - the nose is sooo 'Toyota.' But what I really like about the hilux is the fully-boxed ladder frame as opposed to our land cruiser prado c-frame.
Actually, I don't care about the fully-boxed frame. If I rock-crawled I would, but I don't have a problem with over-flexing the frame. So, I like the tacoma better.
Most likely it was a poser. If it had been a real Hilux, you would have known it because the Hilux looks a lot different than a Tacoma.
I wish you could get a Hilux in the United States or at least were able to choose from the engines the Hilux gets.
You could always get one imported, but you dont want to know what that costs and what a PITA it is.

The best emblem tranfer i've seen was a RAV for with a Ford emblem in it's grille. It fit perfectly. she called it her RAVFord.

Well it wasn't me, because mine is an access cab, and I haven't been to Ohio with it yet... but one of the first things I did when I bought my new Tacoma last year was buy a couple HILUX badges off ebay to stick on my truck... mostly because I've been to Australia and Europe and have seen the HILUX and I'm pithed off that Toyota doesn't give me the choice to buy one in the US.
Of the 8 small Toyota pickups I've owned, the one I liked the most was my 86 SR5 4X4 Xtra cab. I'd buy another one in a minute if they'd make them again... but of course I'd rather have the D2D diesel they offer in the HILUX... but based on what I've seen recently, I'd say it's time for new technology... some kind of hybrid....
