Default 2009 tacoma changes listed

2009 Tacoma Preview - The 2009 Tacoma adds backup camera, new colors and makes popular safety features standard.

The Toyota Tacoma continues to outsell its nearest rival by almost 2-to-1. Customers are drawn to the Tacoma’s reputation for quality and fit ‘n’ finish in addition to a versatile powertrain, different cab/cargo-bed configurations and a wide variety of options to suit numerous lifestyles and utility needs.

The current generation Tacoma was introduced as a 2005 model and now receives numerous enhancements in a mid-cycle refreshening for the 2009 model year. Here are the highlights:

* Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and the STAR™ Safety System will be standard on all models. VSC will now be included on all models along with Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).
* Side-curtain and seat-mounted side airbags will be standard on all models.
* Active headrests will be standard.
* A backup camera will be available in V6 Access Cabs and Double Cabs with the SR5, TRD Off-road and TRD Sport packages. The rear-view image will be displayed on a 2.4-inch LCD monitor located in the electrochromic (EC) rear-view mirror. All Tacomas get a redesigned tailgate handle to accommodate the camera even though the rear-view system is available only on certain models.
* New colors include Magnetic Gray, Barcelona Red, Pyrite and Timberland Green.
* Redesigned rear seats for the Access Cab now offer a center storage area when the seat is deployed. There’s also a storage area under the seat.

Since the Tacoma is popular with younger customers, the audio lineup will be enhanced to reflect current technologies. Here are the highlights:

* All standard head units have an auxiliary input for MP3 players and the CD player will be MP3 compatible. Regular cabs will be satellite-radio capable, meaning the head unit is configured for satellite radio but the vehicle lacks the XM or Sirius receiver module and the dedicated antenna. All standard head units in Access and Double cabs will be XM ready, meaning they are pre-wired with the antenna and just need the optional receiver module and customer activation.
* Regular Cab features AM/FM/CD.
* Access Cab models have three choices: standard AM/FM/CD with ceiling speakers; standard AM/FM/CD with ceiling speakers and subwoofer; AM/FM and 6-CD changer with ceiling speakers and subwoofer.
* Double Cab models have three choices: standard AM/FM/CD; AM/FM and 6-CD changer; JBL® AM/FM and 6-CD changer with XM and Bluetooth®. The JBL has the satellite tuner and antenna built into the truck. The customer need only activate the XM subscription.

The 2009 Tacoma will also sport a few other changes, including:

* Argent-painted grille replaces unpainted black grille.
* Smoked headlamp trim for TRD Off-road, TRD Sport and X-Runner.
* New taillamp design with LED taillamps instead of incandescent bulbs.
* New front-door trim-panel design.
* New SR5 seat-fabric pattern.
* New lower center stack design to accommodate MP3 input.
* Power windows and door locks now standard on Access Cab.
* Bucket-seat option discontinued on Regular cab; bench seat only.
* Stand-alone air conditioning available on Regular Cab
