dickinsonj,

I drive under very similar conditions to you and have had very good luck with Michelin LTX' M/S's. I've had them on two full size Dodge rams and two Tacomas. We have 50,000 miles on my wife's 2005 Tacoma and there is still another 20,000-30,000 miles of tread life left.

Tom

My Brother-in-law has Michelin LTX M/S on his Silverado and swears by them. It's a 1998 and he's on his third set.
If Bridgestone weren't prorating my Revos I would buy the Michelin LTX.

I can't speak highly enough about my Yokohama Geolanders. Great tire. I finally broke down and put Yokohamas on my vette. Happy there too.

I have an 02 Tacoma Prerunner currently on it's 3rd set of tires. the OEM Michellins lastes 62K the sencond set was Pathfinders that lasted 44K and now this third set is Continental Cross Conti and they are BY FAR the best tires other than Yokohama Geo Landers on my old Chevy that i have ever had. The have excellent wet / dry traction and so far have almost 30K on them with less than 1/3rd tread wear...

Ever try the Nokian Vatiiva tire? They are made by Nokian a tire company in Findland and I think beat Michelin's like a step child. It also has a 60,000 mile warranty.

As for the long wearing Michelin tires. They are made from a synthetic rubber compound which lasts longer. The only problem is that you give up traction.

Can anybody comment on the ride quality of the Bridgestone Revos (or any other 10-ply tire) on a Tacoma double cab sport? I've found that in the size I'm looking for (265 70R17), these tires either come in 4-ply (too light) or 10-ply (too heavy).

I'm wondering if the available 17" 10-ply tires will give a decent highway ride, or whether I shoud swap the rims out for 16" and get a decent 6 or 8-ply tire.

any thoughts?

My buddy just put the Nokians on his Sequoia last fall. He loves them. Says they were great in the snow. He likes the look also. I put Terra Grapplers on my Taco Quad and loved them. I have Revo's on my Sequoia and Michelin LTX M/S on my Ridgeline. The Michelin are terrible in the snow. They do wear good (45k) so far with 3/32 left to the wear bars. I think they are hard and a little noisy. The Revo's are new. They are very soft and smooth. Some hum but not intrusive. I think they will get louder with wear.

Excellent description of Revos.

They corner like Jack the Bear wet or dry, and resist hydroplaning as well as any tire I have owned (in well over 40 years of often spirited driving). And they do pretty well in snow also. But they get pretty noisy near the end of their life. And that end comes nearly twice as quickly as the Michelin LTX A/Ts that I had on the same vehicle ('95 Grand Cherokee). Oh well, everything is a compromise... the LTXs hydroplaned and were not too good in snow.

Revos are a fantastic tire in the first two-thirds of their life. I just wish that for the money, they would last longer -- and be easier to live with in the last third of their life.

I put the A/T REVO's on my 03 4x4 in dec of 07 and drove on them through the worst winter I can remember here in chicago. Also did a few runs up north in Wisconsin. Awesome tire, not much noise and a decent ride. I'd buy them again in a minute. I rotate them every 3 or 4K miles when I have the oil changed. So far I have about 9K miles on them with no signs of wear. I do about 60% city, 20% highway/ 20% offroad and I've never even been close to stuck even in 12+ inches of fresh snow on a country backroads. I find myself using 4WD a lot less now.
