TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "265/70/16 to 265/75/16 : is this possible?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
ooops, i meant 265/70/16 to 245/75/16... sorry for the error!
I have 265/70/16s on my '06 TRD Off Road and a friend of mine is selling his new 245/75/16. Will those work on my rims? If so, what will be the difference in handling, looks, etc. ?
The tires are about an hour drive away, but the price is right. just wanted to check with you guys to see if anyone knows...
Thanks

The answer is "yes they will work".
Go to the following web site and utilize the tire size calculator and you can see the difference between the two tires. Tire size calculator
According to the calculations the specs on the two size tires seem to be pretty close.
265/70/16=sidewall 7.3 in>>radius 15.3 in>>diameter 30.6 in
245/75/16=sidewall 7.2 in>>radius 15.2 in>>diameter 30.5 in
Speedometer will be 0.5 mph too fast (when your speedometer says 60 mph you will actually be traveling 59.7mph ).
245/75/16 is standard on the SR5 without the TRD. I know because that's what came on mine. They're completely interchangeable. Not running them anymore, but when I did the calculations, the two sizes were almost identical in circumference. So, the only things you'll probably notice are that they're narrower and likely will give you a little better MPG.

If they're the Dunlop Grandtreks, run away immediately. They are possibly the worst tire ever. Look at the following link, 3rd from the bottom: Consumer Survey Results By Category

You have to decide what you're looking for: H/T (Highway Terrain), A/T (All Terrain), or M/T (Mud Terrain) first. I prefer A/T so I got the Firestone Destination A/T's, 265/75/16. They're pretty close to the size of your stockers so it wouldn't affect your MPG or speedo much, if at all. I recommend the Destinations to anyone. They're quiet, good offroad, and give a good ride on pavement. Check out the following link and you'll see they're ranked #2 for A/T tires on TireRack: Consumer Survey Results By Category. I got mine (P rated) for $500 installed from a local Firestone dealer.
