TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Another TPMS question", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have decided to go with the "black tape" solution on my 06 DC Sport. Can someone tell me how to get at the gauge cluster without removing the whole dashboard? Thanks
Or, is there another "fix" for this issue without spending a ton of cash?
Well, today I did the "tape" fix. Really easy, and only took about 1/2hr. No wires to find or cut, No worry about unplugging anything. That light can blink till the dashboard turns to dust, I'll never see it. Recommend this fix for everyone tired of seeing that blinking light.

Many other solutions than taking your dash apart. Did you keep your existing sensors? If so, drop your spare, take it to a tire shop, break it down & put your remaining sensors in the tire, put back together, inflate & remount. There are kits as well for remounting the original sensors in your new rims. Not to mention, if its a 06 you can do a TPMS by pass mod in the glove box. There are many before you that have posted work arounds. Search on TPMS, welcome and good luck
Thanks for the reply. Have you heard of the one that "clips" the power supply wire, that is located behind the left kick panel? This one seems easier yet. I don't have all 5 sensors. I bought the truck used.
The only one I have ever heard of that bypasses the TPMS ECU is the procedure where you splice a wire & a fuse (less than $5 in parts) behind the glove box. I printed out the thread from Toyota Nation & bought the stuff but never when ahead with the mod because I just kept my steel rims on my 2006 & swapped tires. I wish I could be of more help, but the one behind the glove box was really well documented & will work with your model year truck 2006

you'll destroy the sensors if you actually have to use the spare though. i've heard of guys buying wheelbarrow tires and doing this and putting the wheelbarrow tire inside the spare underneath the bed

i've heard of this...but i thought it was behind the radio and hvac controls? probably same wire. i'm thinking it was on toyotanation...but not sure. something i've been meaning to do.
man there's tons of stuff on this mod...i'm going this route:

Im one of those guys that installed the TPS in a wheel barrel tire but rather than put it on top of the spare tire I keep it in the garage. As long as Im within a 20 mile radius of the w/b tire the TPSM dash light stays off, when I go beyond that 20 mile limit the light engages. Once the light goes on I'll stick the w/b tire in the cab of the truck drive around the block which is enough to reset the sensor and the light goes off.
I thought about putting the w/b tire on top of the spare as suggested earlier in this thread but to my understanding the sensors aren't cheap and it seems like it would only be a matter of time till one of the sensor would get damaged from all the bouncing around.
In time I plan on getting a camper shell and will some how secure the w/b tire in the back of the truck.
