TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "New 09 Access cab V6 4x4, and a new member", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
So I did it. I finally bought a Tacoma; after nearly a decade of wanting one.
It's an '09 in pyrite mica, access cab, 4x4, V6, automatic, SR5.
So far it appears they have yet to fully fix the steering wheel flutter at highway speeds and the A/C surge at a stop. For me the flutter is very intermittent at 65mph. No noticeable tranny clunk.
Things I like about the 09: surrounding air bags, color, back-up camera is great for hitching up a trailer, I like the LED tailights(more visable); just not these particular ones.
Things they should have kept the same: rear seats. Who knows; they might be able to be swapped out for the fold flat style.
I assume all autos feel like they go into an engine breaking mode when you take your foot off the gas; it doesn't really coast.
I can live with the different head lights and tail lights for the upgraded safety features. But I'm looking into changing out the rear seat already; about 300 miles on it.
No pics yet; my camera had an incident while I was fishing...
I have gotten used to the downshifting automatic, but it is a bit different from old school transmissions. I think most newer automatics work that way these days.
I was wondering if I would ever trade in my '05, but when I saw the new access cab rear seats I knew I should just keep the one I have. Those seats are not really very good looking and they don't look as functional as the old design either.
Enjoy your new ride and let us know if you change out those back seats.
I've also looked into swapping the rear tailights for old style; they're reported to be an exact fit/plug swap for the previous style.
I'm a little more concerned with the steering wheel flutter right now though... It came with the Dunlop AT20's, which I just found, one wheel threw a wheel weight.... It was there when I bought the truck, but not there today. Great, it begins.....
I don't hate the new taillights as much as most people seem to, but then I haven't seen them except in pictures.
It is strange how much different these trucks seem to be - that front end vibrations is a major problem for some folks and my truck doesn't do it at all. It is just about ready for some new tires though, so I might have to deal with that problem then.
Pyrite Mica is a sweet color, I was actually considering a tundra in pyrite before getting my taco. Havn't seen an 09 in that color yet, post some pics asap!

Instead of the fold flat rear "seats" of the pre '09; Toyota tried to make them more like actual seats. They still fold up and down, but the only people that could fit back there should be in car seats. There are headrests too, but again, if you can sit back there your head probably won't reach the headrest. They even have a small center console with cup holders.
So instead of an good interior storage area, they made it a back seat that few can sit in.

NN
And there Is a "pimp mobile" rear speaker right in the middle of it all.
I don't have the boomin' sub in between the seats; I think that may be for the Xtreme. The website's are pretty vague about what model it comes with. Might also come with 6 disc changer package. I don't know for sure.
Bra, I'll have to do some checking on the seats before I can give you an answer. Probably won't be any time soon though. BTW my interior is tan.
