TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tacoma payload capacity", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I know its probably all over this forum, but I can't find a definite answer- what is the bed capacity for the 07 double cab? Went to the dealership after picking up 10 bags of mulch and the back was just about bottoming out. I know about the TSB but the service advisor said I was over the limit of 600lbs. Is it really that low of a capacity? Thanks
Per Consumerguide.com the payload is 1485lbs. Some dealerships are better than others when it comes to the spring TSB. The dealership I went to simply did it after I asked them to.....others are having to load up their truck and prove to the service writer there is a problem. If you really want the TSB done, keep trying and try with other dealerships.
Yeah Splicer, I looked it up,but i just didn't understand it. I have to include whoever is in the truck too- not just in the bed right? So if the service guys are right in telling me the capacity is 600lbs then I'm over the limit if I drive with 2 other 200+pounders like myself. That doesn't seem right to me. maybe I'm missing something. I understand that our tacos aren't large heavy duty trucks, but they are trucks and I'd expect to put a bit more than that in the back.
In regards to the TSB- in your opinion should I mention it or not? I've heard before that it wasn't good to say. I guess the dealership will think you're just saying there is a problem with your truck regardless if its true or not. I didn't mention it figuring that if its a widespread problem they would be aware of it.
I had the rear spring TSB done on my 06 access cab over a year ago. This weekend I picked up a couple of loads of gravel. Here are the numbers from the scale.
Gross 2830 kg 6239 lbs
Tare 1890 lg 4166 lbs
net 940 kg 2072 lbs
So I had over 1 ton of gravel in the back of the truck. The truck was about 3 cm off of the bump stops at that point.
I don't suggest doing this too often or going a long distance with that much weight in the truck as it was over the legal limit.
I have to include whoever is in the truck too- not just in the bed right?
That's right, clearly stated in my 2005 manual -- but nowhere does it mention a 600# payload. Depending on your transmission, bed length, wheel type , tire size, and whether it has the towing package and if it's 2wd or 4wd... the payload for a DC varies from 991# to 1370#.
My DCab TRD sport 4x4 6spd is rated only 1055 lbs. Its listed right on your doorjam and in manual.
Pre-tsb with rough roads, I would bottom out with 600 lbs. Unacceptable. I asked the dealer to look up the TSB (even though I had it in my pocket). Dealer did it, no hassles. Now handles 1000 lbs no problem.

I have an 06 Access Cab, 2wd and was thinking of having the TSB done. The bed sags quite a bit with a 750 lb load with no passengers. However, I was wondering if it changed the empty ride any since it's only occasionally used as a truck?
Sounds like you guys are only having this problem when you put a good load in the back. Check out the Timbren Load carrying Bump stops at wheelersoffroad.com they are designed to carry the excess load but your truck will still ride the same when unloaded.
Dry bag weight, whether 2 or 3 cu mulch bags x 10 bags should not exceed the weight limit of the truck. I get a yard of bulk mulch regularly, sometimes it wet for its been raining non-stop lately. Sometimes it's bottom of the pile stuff (end of season) so its heavier. The bulk stuff is equivilent to 14 bags of 2 cu or 9 bags 3's. Mine does squat a tad, but no bottoming out. (Its a 2006 DC SB w/ TSB).
Prior to having the TSB done, my truck would regularly bottom out with 2 adults & 2 kids & some light stuff in the back. I talked with dealer about it & they suggested the TSB. The truck been fine since (business jobs & trailering) w/ no additional modifications.
Give the ol' customer service number a call if your dealer won't budge or step up.
