TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "dead pedal", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
The dead pedal on my 2005 Tacoma broke. The plastic parts on the back which clip it to the floorboard seem to have split. I called my dealer's parts people, and after several minutes and a lot of talking amongst themselves, they think they found the part I need (apparently they've never heard of a dead pedal), and it runs about $74. This seems crazy, so does anyone else have a source for one that does not cost more than my monthly insurance bill?
$74 footrest is indeed crazy. Can you remove the broken plastic pieces and drive a bolt in the floorboard? You could also use a different type of fastener. Try The Fastener Warehouse they have everything, seriously.
Or, explore a local salvage/junk yard.

Oh there is no way I'd pay $74 for that. $28 is pushing it. I'd thought about a junk yard, but for those prices, I can rig something up myself using epoxy, bolts, or even duct tape and bailing wire if I have to.
Hate to break the news to you but junk yards know what we pay for new Toyota parts and they do not knock off very much at all if used part is in good condition! I have been buying parts for some time and hard to find a cheap part be it used or new!
Hell if you got a manual then you probably have more space for your foot if anything... probably nicer w/ it off. You could get a full tank of gas for $74.
