TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tie downs", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I bought an extra set of the d-rings that are in the rear of the bed and I used the front bed bolt to secure it.
+1
all you have to do is drill out the hole a bit in the D ring for the bigger bed bolt
and removing the bed bolt can be a real strain !
most have best luck with a impact wrench or a long breaker bar and
they are T-55 torx bolts
I just got 4 D rings in the mail from Trailer Hitches - Pintle that I will be installing this weekend. They are a pretty close match to the overpriced OEM D rings and at least as strong, if not more.

I attached factory D-rings to the front of the bed, right through the composite bed material. Holds down a dirt bike easily, even on some bumpy trails. I ended up installing a "Bed Buddy" by CCR. This makes a great tie down bar at the front of the bed.
I didn't find that the bed bolts were that tight.
After reading posts on here about how hard they were to remove I was all prepared. I had a 24" breaker bar and sat in the bed with my feet braced. I gave a big tug on the bar and nearly slid out the back of the truck. They were tight but not that tight. The truck was only a few weeks old at the time.

I did the exact same thing....mine were barely tightened down .
