TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "2009 Tacoma Sat Radio Prewire Install", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
It has the Sat Radio Prewire with the antenna on the roof. Has anyone installed the Sat Radio in one of these trucks? My dealer told me that the Sat Radio from Toyota will not be available until Oct. I think it will be an XM unit.
Just curious on how difficult it will be to install.

You question is somewhat confusing for the following reason. I've been shopping for a new 09 Tacoma. The one I test drove had a XM unit in it, and I even listened to a few stations. I was told the truck came with XM standard, and 3 months of XM free, then I would have to pick up the charge to continue service.
The model I'm looking for is the TRD / Sport, so maybe the TRD / Offroad has a different radio that must be replaced to get XM??
The TRD\Sport comes with it where the TRD/Offroad is optional. I was told that it wasn't hard but I haven't looked into it yet. I am working on a tonneau cover and window vents for my 2009.
If you get the JBL System......it will already have ther XM Receiver in the truck.
I do not have the JBL.....I have the one with the six disk changer and no JBL. It does however come prewired for the XM or Sirius Service. It even has the antenna on the roof already.
From my understanding, the head unit is sat capable, but not sat ready even though it has the antenna and is wired.
What that meant to me was the head will work as a display to the sat receiver, and the buttons will work, but a sat receiver would have to be purchased.

Thats the question.......when can I buy the Receiver and the Fit Lit from Toyota?

I bought a XM receiver from Integrated Solutions on ebay. You don't bid, just pay. Works with the head unit of my 2009 Tacoma Access Cab. You also will need a special cable to connect to the factory installed XM antenna. Works slick and is cheaper than Toyota's factory unit--which still isn't out. Integrated Solutions is great to work with and the install was easy--just followed directions sent. I wanted an XM that worked with the head unit and could use the factory installed antenna and this was the cheapest and best I found after long searches on the web. Hope this helped.
