Default Knocking/Tapping noise

I posted this up several months ago, but decided to post a new thread with an update.

They dealer is telling me it does not fall under the 60k warranty, but the main problem is they dont even know if the item i need to purchase is the one causing the noise. They're saying I need a fuel damper which makes no sense to why i would get a tapping/knocking noise.

I know a lot of other people were having the same problem, but weren't able to figure out what it was. Has anyone fixed this problem? It's gotten worse and it's driving me nuts.

Hard to say without hearing it but if it sounds like valve clatter it's probably the sound of the valves operating. You can hear them through the exhaust manifolds because the manifolds are thin wall metal, not the heavy cast iron ones we used to use. Toyota switched to thin metal to reduce costs and to heat up faster, thereby lowering emissions output after a cold start faster. There is a TSB to put revised manifolds on some of the earlier year models, but it doesn't help much. Hope this helps.

If this is the same thread as before I don't remember. But I have had a noise that sounds somewhat like a rubber hose slapping inside a 5 gallon plastic bucket as best as I can describe it. I've yet to figure out where in the hell it's coming from and generally is only in the cooler time of year here say below 50-55 degrees or so. Of course when I take it to the dealership and leave they tell me the same **** "we can't duplicate the noise". WTF over!
