Default Weird 4WD problem

Im new here. I've searched all around to try to solve my problem nothing has helped. Ok I have a 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport. 45k miles. 9" suspension lift, 37" tires... Ive been in 4wd hi and low many of times with the lift and tires. I tried it here recently. I do know how and what to do when im wanting to into 4WD. So I come to a stop leave it in D or neutral. I flip the switch to 4hi, you can hear it lock in, but the light just keeps flashing, no matter if I turn the wheel back up drive forward, tap the brakes. Nothing it still continues to flash the green light. With the green light flashing I cannot put it into 4lo it will start beeping, im guessing because the light is still flashing, but its actually in 4wd. I dont get it. If anyone can shine some light on me that would be great. Thank you for your time. I know its kind of long. But I just need some help solving my problem.

I have a similar problem with my 08, except that when the light is flashing in mine, it will not go into 4 wheel drive. And also, you can turn it back to 2 wheel drive and it keeps flashing.
Now, sometimes it will start flashing when you start up the truck without even touching the button. I've had it to the dealer and they say theres nothing wrong with it because it wont do it for them.
I'd like to find an answer too.

First of all it sounds like you may not be doing things properly so let's start there. Putting it in 4HI and 4LO are 2 completely different processes.

For 4LO, you should be stopped and in Neutral. When the light is flashing, let the truck roll just a bit and it should lock in. Repeat the process to get it out of 4LO.

For 4HI, you should not be stopped! You should be driving, but not under a heavy load or turning. If you're turning or under a heavy load, you need to straighten out and/or let up on the gas when you throw the switch. Per the manual, you can be traveling up to 62MPH when engaging it in 4HI. So, be sure to be driving at a reasonable speed and throw the switch into 4HI. Give it a couple of seconds (sometimes more, sometimes less) and you should hear the "clunk" of it engaging.

If you are following these procedures and it's not engaging, then it could be that your 4WD Actuactor has failed. That has happened to a couple of people.

Let us know if you've followed the above instructions and the outcome.

Yes I am doing it properly. I have even tried driving maybe at 10-15 mph flip it to 4hi and you can hear it clunk, but the light stays flashing. The only way for me to get it out of 4hi is to come to a stop flip the back to 2wd and turn the truck off and turn it back on.

Take a look at page 3 for the location of the actuactor.

Reading back on your post, I realized its not stuck in 4wd and its a 2008 so its still under warranty unlike mine. The light blinks because the actuator isnt engaging or disengaging the 4wd. Take it to the dealer and show them whats going on, dont give them the keys and let them try. Its a bitch to change, so there not gonna say its broke.

On a side note, if your warranty was fudged. The actuator pins 1 and 2 need to be jumped to test, or to get it stuck out of 4wd. 2nd page, following link. You can also test the actuator with your multi-meter by testing the resistance of the same 2 pins. Should be 5ohms. Also on the link...

Thanks. Im hopefully going to the stealership tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the warranty is still in effect.

Okay talked to the service manager at the dealership. I do have 46k miles on my truck he said the 36k warranty is no longer in effect.. well no duh.. But he said it sounds like the actuator. So im bringing it in tomorrow morning as soon as I get off work. Ill let everyone know the outcome of the problem. We are going on a ride this weekend and really need the 4wd to work! lol

Well sorry for the delay. But im never going back to that dealership again. I didnt bring it in but he went out to the truck to look at it with me in there. I flipped it in 4hi, it did what it normally does. Then I flipped in 4lo following the direction and beep beep beep beep beep he said did you hear it lock in? He said he did. I was like no when its beeping like that its not locked in. He said the beeping means its fine. I was like whatever I'll go to another dealership. Have a good day.

He also probably tells everyone that the little light that looks like a fuel pump near the fuel gauge means you have a full tank!

Why do they hire idiots? You really should call and complain to the service manager, even if you're going somewhere else.
